    I got it to work! It was actually as simple as putting the .smdh, .xml, and .3dsx in the 3ds folder. I'm still not entirely sure how CFW is different from Homebrew though.

    I'm wondering if it's possible to hex edit VC save data via connecting to PC and editing saves in the "backup" folder. The .sav files for NES and SNES games are 1MB and 3MB respectively which seems unusually large so I'm not sure if that's the right place (maybe it's encrypted)? I'm new to 3DS...
