I called up Nintendo and they were happily going to look at the unit and pay for postage but in the end I opened up my controller myself and added the anti-static foam and they have been perfect since.     I got one for about 80 aus in Akihabara a few weeks ago, Once there go to electric city and you should be able to find a cheap micro in nearly every second store, the one i got was one of the final fantasy ones to so i was extra pleased hope this helps.
