Why do custom firmwares have weird names?

For one, henkaku means many things, but overall they're related to a change/revolution in what a Vita can do. Enso is a Zen Buddhist symbol related to circle of togetherness, which looks something like a broken circle; I'd assume this relates to how Enso allows henkaku from boot (ie, always)...

US experiences two more mass shootings in less than 24 hours; 8chan's founder calls for site closure

So, we should/do care about the normies and presume everyone else shot isn't an issue? I mean, if the argument is a lot of homicides are done involving crimes/gangs/drugs, then it's not a matter of "mental health". It's about criminals committing crimes. It's clear that most don't put up...

US experiences two more mass shootings in less than 24 hours; 8chan's founder calls for site closure

Except that even though multiple shooters have had long rants on 8chan, they weren't preemptively caught. Why? Because the steps of defining things as illegal doesn't really seem to work. Smaller magazine sizes? Buy more. Stricter rules on guns? Keep shopping around until the background...

Bethesda will patch the new DOOM re-releases to make the mandatory login optional

Meanwhile, DOOM 3 BFG which includes all three games is selling for $6.59 on Steam and as Memoir points out you can just grab the data files to play in a source port (I'm on Linux, so that's basically a necessity). Add to this the option to play with neural net enhanced graphics, different...

Hacking Regarding EZ Flash Omega's saving method...

My saver folder had a lot of files. That included all sorts of things, though, from nes, gb, video, midi files, etc packaged as gba files. I don't recall if I had much if any actual save corruption as a result. I know for a while I pretty aggressively backed up my saves (at least once a...

Hacking Regarding EZ Flash Omega's saving method...

The simple answer is no. The FPGA that copies the SRAM (and there still is SRAM on the EZ Omega, it's just not battery backed) runs concurrently and separately from the GBA CPU. To draw to the screen would require interrupting the CPU and attempting to interject code*. It would be possible to...

Hacking Regarding EZ Flash Omega's saving method...

Given the nature of the GBA, I really do believe that would have been the better approach. There was only four real problems* with the EZ IV: the need to patch for saves, the requirement for a battery, the relative slow time to save if you had many games, and the general issue of corruption of...

Action RPG mobile game Mega Man X DiVE has been announced

I'm cautiously cautious. I do tend to agree with the "stop milking MMX" thing, though. X5 was supposed to be the last one, and it's clear the Zero series would have been a lot better if they had let the X series die. The same problem with Star Wars, really. Other games (the original MM...

Hacking Patch database for EZ Flash IV 2.x

Yes, the EZ IV has the keyset.cfg. EZ Omega has even more flexibility with the options. The fast patch engine for the EZ Omega most avoids the need for .PAT files by having a list of all patch addresses and save types for all games. I don't think the EZ IV has sufficient hardware save...

Hacking Patch database for EZ Flash IV 2.x

I forget if anyone has actually created a patch collection. AFAIK, the EZ Omega uses the same .PAT format in its auto patcher so you could look at it if interested on what it's doing/how it works. The issue with number of files in a directory has to do with the kernel sorting filenames. It...

    Why do you like GBAtemp?

Well, there's two major areas I post in: technical stuff and more off-topic. For the former, it's nice to talk about technical subjects and help out when I can. For the off-topic stuff, it's nice to vent my opinion about things. :) Mostly news/developments. I used to be on Pocketheaven...

Hacking Updating to EZ Flash IV Kernel 2.x

The bootloader (that includes the kernel updater) is a small program that never gets updated to avoid possible corruption issues on a kernel update. The kernel itself takes care of loading games so was updated at some point to support FAT32 and larger filesystems. There's at least a few...

Hacking EZ-Flash Omega: Sega Master System/Game Gear emulation

You can use this fork to get Pogoshell support which allows you to use things like SMSAdvance. The EZ Omega kernel is ~1.4MB. All the plugins supported are ~2.4MB. There's only enough room for a 2MB kernel, so it doesn't make a lot of sense trying to stuffing a select amount of them into the...

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
