    I've still not seen anyone reporting a bricked wii when first updating to 2.1E and keep the wii connected while updating with the disc. (I have been checking many forums and on IRC) So i went ahead and burnt myself a new copy of the game and have now succesfully updated and i'm now able to play...

    it is most likely the message 'you can set screensaver options in the wii settings' that shows up after updating. im sure it's missing in the NTSC update. At least "EU/EU/ENG/Setup/ScreenSave.html" "EU/EU/ITA/Setup/ScreenSave.html" etc. files, there probably is one...

    Ive tried with connect24 both enabled and disabled, update required in both cases. Also swicthed off my wireless AP so it has no way of going online. Same result.

    A very good question... The only thing ive been able to come up with is that it might be a game specific update required just for Paper Mario (and it doesnt update the general system). Or it could be that the game checks if you have the 2.1 NTSC version of the firmware and since PAL machines...

    Updated to 2.1E online, game still wants to update and fails at about 90% Seems wierd that most people are able to play, I cant apply the update and ive seen two reports of "bricking" (or at least wii not working properly) after updating. Different manufacturing dates with changes in hardware...

    Hmmm... I'm thinking maybe i should wait playing this game.. don't want to ruin my wii for just one game. Been really looking forward to play this though.. I'll try with an online update and then see what happens when i put the game disc in.
