    I'm running firmware 5.1.0 with SX OS v1.4, and this is what I did: 1. Install base game nsp. 2. Update to latest version using update nsp. 3. Install DLC nsp. All of this was done offline. I haven't had any issues relating to software updates and all DLC worked fine with this method.
