Okay, I am officially an idiot! I bought the Gateway card a month and a half ago, bought and returned a crappy micro SD which wasn't a legitimate 128GB, stopped using it inbetween and I just got this Samsung card. Totally forgot you still have to press select to even get the menu to appear...- Feh-Feh

Yes the microSD is going into the Gateway card, not the 3DS. The format is exfat, it's preferable due to fat32 requiring splitting for games of 4GB+ and also loading speed. I could just change to fat32 and try though, as they're not exactly massive issues. What baffles me is after loading into...- Feh-Feh
