I reminisce in those Nintendo chimes when you turn on
In my pocket you belonged
Lying in wait for me to play
Just for a couple of hours a day
You kept me busy during long commutes
I never grew tired of the on-screen disputes
But now you lay lightless as I weep
For you will never wake from this mode of sleep.

In all seriousness though, the top screen of my DS has a crack. I took it out of my pocket and was confused for a second as to what it was. I had been watching a movie in Moonshell and thought that it was part of the movie. It still works, except that patch of white is always present [more pictures below]. I can live with it for now, and with all the talks of a new DS down the pipeline I most likely going to stave off bingeing on a new one. Plus my girlfriend has an old DS with a broken hinge, I'm going to try and salvage the top lcd for my DS.

It's not off, just a black screen while loading Moonshell

Still playable, I actaully beat my best time on Delfino Square while playing with the broken screen.

Fix it! You can get a top screen and shell replacement for less than $25USD!!

I did it, and brought my baby back!

Well my girlfriend has a second DS with the broken hinge so i'm going to take the LCD off that.
Did you encounter any problems replacing the LCD?

Sorry, but I don't think a Phat DS screen will fit a DS Lite.

Never had one apart myself, but I'm sure the ribbon cables are in different places or something like that.

The broken one she has is the DS Lite, so no worries there!
When I said "old DS" in the first post, I meant an older DS Lite [she replacement hers after it broke]

*UPDATE*
----------
[for those who care]

I have successfully fixed my DS. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out, except the hinge mechanism. I bought my DS when the hinge problem was very common. And everytime I flipped open the lid there was this snap sound from the hinge. After rebuilding my DS the snap is now a bit louder.

But it works.

in progress..

You should get an armour case if you don't already have one. Might prevent the same kind of damage from happening in the future.
