In the game there are time trial challenge.

The 0 deaths run is a completionist thing kind of similar to Link's Awakening's 0 death ending. Though, I don't know if the 0 death in crash has a specific reward at the end.

It's kind of a completionist thing on a per-level scale. You need to have less than 3 deaths to unlock another gem and gems unlock skins
