I just want to make sure before I buy a Y cable adapter. I have a HDD that uses to much power to run.
I just use a large SD card tbh and a flash drive for my Wii U games. The y cable and then having to restart if it doesn’t initialize properly is such a nuisance. A $35 256gb card fits almost 200 GC and WBFS games.

SD Cards fucking suck though. Their read and write times are a lot slower then any USB device (even deleting stuff takes forever) and they tend to randomly get read errors after a while. Data might get lost. It just generally isn't a good idea to play games off an SD Card. I agree that HDDs have problems of their own. Never use a flash drive though.

An MLC/SLC SD Card is far more reliable and has more read/write cycles than any HDD. In fact even TLC SD Cards do. Just don't buy any using QLC which is in fact garbage. And at 100+ mb/s you're saturating the Wii U's or the Wii's bus regardless of you using SD or USB. I've been using an SD card for years for my Wii and slightly more recently my Wii U. It loads much faster than the disc drive does. Just don't use cheap SD cards. I like the Samsung Pro Endurance SD cards. I don't understand the "never" use a flash drive bit either. You shouldn't use a cheap flash drive. But if you use a quality one with redundant memory it's no issue. Especially with playing games when you're writing very little data. What do you think the built in memory inside the Wii U or Wii is? And why do you think SSD's have widespread adoption? If they weren't reliable you wouldn't see SSD's being used in professional quality laptops/PCs like a Macbook/Surface or high end Thinkpads. There's a lot of misinformation on this board. Especially with the Wii U's pitifully unreliable power output over it's USB 2.0 bus. Using a mechanical drive is just asking for trouble.

I've just personally never used an SD Card that wasn't slow as shit. You seem to know a lot more about that, so I'm tipping my hat to your great nerd-knowledge and leaving the field to you.

There’s A LOT that are really slow. The SD card currently in my Wii U cost a good amount but improved the A̢̡͉̻͖̙͓͛̍̇̋̔͗͠Ȩ̨͓͚̔͊͑̾͂̀̌͢͡ͅͅͅS̶̖͍̪͖͚̆́͋̄͋̊͒̚T̴̨͇̮̥̝͎͎̫͎͋̐͂̈͊̐̀̀͘H̪̠̯͓̤̹̮̳͉̠͌̎̔̔͑̅̏͒Ẽ̡̻͖̪͌̋̉̓̓͐̍͟͜͞ͅT̗̲͓̫̄̄͋̑͊͢͠Į̷̥̫̰̣̦̗̈́́̑͛̐͢C̷̻̥͖̘̩̠͇̐͆̒̕͘͢͡S̛͓̣̱͈̪̻̜̟̲̊͗̾͆̿̀̈́̕͟͠ of my setup. And I don’t have to unplug my Wii U drive to use Nintendont. I just leave it in and load my GC games off the SD card. We play Just Dance pretty often and I’d imagine if there was issues with my setup they would show playing that game. But all’s been good so far. I am a big nerd though but I definitely applaud you for not getting obstinate or being a jerk like a lot of people. And be.

Hello. 1111smiley_emoticons_seb_zylinder.gif

hey i ordered one about to try it tommorow my friend told me i can use it without patching ciOS

That are very interesting News.
That means if we use an Y-Cable we no longer need to softmod our Wii´s ?

technically speaking, the vwii is quite a bit more difficult to hack fully than the wii u part: with cios installs (using a different FAT library if using beta 52 to work with ustealth) and especially neek (quite complicated to understand fully, so most people don't bother with it).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

btw, you only need the other FAT library if playing wiiware stuff. the other alternative is to patch ios 80 to play the games from the official sd card method. that's the one thing I didn't do.
