Hi guys, I'm new here and new to the modding scene in general. (I did solder a modchip in a Wii over a decade ago with great success) I've followed this thread since it's beginning and been excited to finally mod my switch. However......

I'm a bit stuck with OS SX and wondering if people can help me out or point me in the right direction.

I cannot seem to boot into CFW.? I'll summarise what I've done so far below. Any help much appreciated.

1- Updated OFW to 10.0.4
2- Formatted new 128gb SD with switch
3- Installed SX Core (Luckily, that was the easy bit, I think. Got green light and boot.dat sad SD card)
4- Copied Boot.dat (SX OS, the latest BETA 3.0.2 iirc) to sd card. Put it in switch.
5- Booted switch into to SX made a backup of Nand
6- Removed SD card and saved nand to external drive
7- Booted back into SX OS, hit boot custom firmware. (I fear this may be my wrong doing at this point)
8- Message appears saying there is no license but license request will be added to SD card, I can continue but not everything will work.
9- Click continue. Switch boots into OFW.
10- Switched off, tried again (Probably a couple of times,) same result, OFW.
11- Removed SD, Put it in PC, uploaded license request file and received license file. Put license file on sd, repeated steps to boot CFW, same result = OFW.
12- Created Emunand. (on a hidden partition on SD card) orange box to enable/disable appears above boot into CFW button.
13- Tried booting CFW, keeps booting to normal OFW!

Just formatted card and trying to create emunand as a file system on SD card at the moment.

If anyone can advise where I've cocked up, I'd be most thankful! Apologies for any formatting issues, typing this on my phone!

Edit: For anyone who may read this. I wasn't booting OFW. It was CFW. Guys below pointed out the error of my ways.

I'll leave it up, just in case it helps somebody out.

Curious as to what your experience has been with Yanwen that leads you to believe it will be delayed. Also got lite shipping confirmation today and looking for shipping insights.
every time i order from aliexpress and shipping is Yanwen i either don't get it or it takes at least 10 weeks
so did you manage to get your number to track? does your number start with UF and/or end with YP ?

It boots to cfw, but looks like ofw. Go to album and see if you see the SXOS Menu.

If it's as simple as that...... I feel like a fool! I will let you know the outcome when this emunand is complete..

Edit: Just re-read the SX OS manual and can now see the bit about the album icon! What an idiot! Hopefully that's all it is!

Thanks mate.

The soldering bit was a doddle!

I ordered an SX Core off AliExpress, 8 days to deliver to UK, just arrived today. I don't actually need it now as I managed to get an unpatched console off ebay.

I think my chip is coming today, but I don't have an SD card larger than 32GB at the moment.

Do I need to wait for a larger one before I can install the chip to get the drivers installed, or can that be done after modding?

I think if you are playing an NSP that maybe has online facilities but not sure. My Switch was one of the first to get a superban as I had no idea about this sort of thing when I got it. I remember I was playing Splatoon (xci) at the time and updates were downloading from the servers. Shortly after that I got banned and I think that might be what caused it. Also, I think it is likely that all banned consoles will be upgraded to superbans when Ninty get round to dropping their ban hammers - ie it might be a two stage operation.
SXOS will be able to do a software update mainly with the very successful SX CORE and SX LITE...good luck.

Hello I do UK installs (and possibly EU installs)

DM for further info.

Cant give you a link to sxlite as I dont have 1.
Are you able to provide the chip too (at additional cost of course) or is it necessary that I purchase it first and send with the console? Will probably send you a PM to arrange something when back in UK. Cheers

Great stuff. What method did you use? :)

Solder, flux, etc. Did you pre tin the pads?

Yes, pre-tinned the pads.

I'll talk you through what I did briefly but I did use an RS Pro 90W soldering Station (about £200) which does make life easier.

So, couldn't find my 99% pure isopropyl alcohol but decided to crack on as found some 70% proof alcohol wipes (not recommended - they're quite fluffy) and don't clean between the caps as easily.

I used a 0.25mm tip and 0.38mm solder. Iron was set to 350C.

Gave everything a good clean with the wipes as best as possible. Then gave it a while to make sure everything was completely dry as the wipes I used weren't really suited to the job. Blew everything out with a rubber dust blower to make sure there were no bits of lint kicking about.

I used a no-clean flux pen on the pads and pre-tinned them.

Positioned, and fluxed the EMC shield anchor points and caps. A few quick dabs of the iron and everything was sorted.

A bit hap-hazard considering the gear I had, if I'd have found my isoproponal, I'd have been quite proud to post an installation vid. I do have an in progress pic..

Wait for larger sd card. Switch must install drivers to work with sd cards larger than 64 gb .

To update you guys. It was me being a fool.... SX is working fine.

I'll leave my embarrassing post up just in case it helps some other poor unfortunate soul!

Dm you both to maybe arrange something.

how much do you want to bet? they are shutting down sellers and even people who INSTALL these ALL OVER the world including here in australia. no one is safe not even on aliexpress. nintendo have got people so shit scared our biggest retailer here ozmodchips doesn't even want anything to do with SX anymore.

This is why Taobao exists, Even if they stop resellers in the US, AUS, UK, go after Installers. Aliexpress, they can't shut down the source, hundreds of factories are making these things for TX Replica clothing and fashion is a billion dollar industry just for example and have way more resources than Nintendo ever would and those companies sending C&Ds, raiding factories in china and seizing goods at the borders still can't keep replica goods out of the US. The mod chips are no different, befriend a trusted seller and they can just send you a link on Aliexpress for "extra shipment fee" which obviously Aliexpress can't just tear down their listing unless they know for certain that it's the chip being sold or use an agent and buy from Taobao in china either way people will still get the modchips and installers will still install just not as publicly as before.

BTW I don't see you using thermal pads. I'm going to put some along the heatpipe and on the memories

Is that aimed at me?

I don't see a need for them. If people are seeing a benefit to it, then I see no harm. This is my personal switch which is typically used by my daughter to play Mario Kart, so it never even breaks a sweat anyway.

If it's deemed necessary by people doing it day in and day out, then they know more than me! But I would never attempt to mod somebody else's switch without isopropyl alcohol anyway! :D which I did with mine.

Nothing I've posted above is meant as a guide in anyway!

I can solder, been doing it a long time. But I couldn't even use the new firmware until somebody pointed out my idiocy!

I'd offer install services but there's a member already offering it for the UK at a very reasonable rate. Plus I'm new here, so seems a bit pointless.

.

Same pads are pointless the 16nm chip doesnt pull enough power to warrant it and the backplate doesnt even provide thermal transfer to the point that the paste doesnt even contact the heat pipe properly.

An og switch only peaks at 60c covered.

You did a good job and have some really nice equipment.
