Just did a test - selected a ROM from a playlist and the Load Content menu, in both cases switching from fixGB to snes9x - got 17 seconds both times. Yes, that's too slow, and a fair chunk of that is initialising XMB, but it doesn't seem different each time.
Is there an extra delay when there's no core switch, maybe?

I've deleted all playlists and thumbnails and only keep basic Retroarch stuff.
I get around 12s for small 1MB - 4MB roms (Genesis, NES), that's acceptable but still could be optimized (?)

I wonder if Retroarch could keep Cores in RAM and only load contents each time.

-Also if RA team could disable Gamepad display by default, or allow us to disable it via option. I've tried Padcon but it crashes Retroarch.

I always have gamepad off also. Have it out of range in a different room so it doesn't even turn on.

I have a version of haxchi that doesn't need gamepad.

17s to load a game? yikes! :P I remember it being alot faster than that. Take alook at this vid from 2016..

Its pretty much instant.

Don't know what could have changed over the years for the load speed to become so slow but there's definitely something going on?

Thank you that video is the proof the slowness is purely software related.

In newer Retroarch : You load the content, it takes almost 6s, then RA asks for the core to use, and it takes almost another 12s.

Some big roms (Street Fighter III 3rd Strike) take almost 30 seconds.

But I'm not complaining it's just a request to eventually address this issue.

But how? Retroarch has no cores for loading playstation games.
That vid is ancient, the core was compiled to see how it would run back when the WiiU port was new.. (badly it turned out) lol
It was running on the PS1's interpreter. I dunno if there is even a download for it anymore. :P

Funny. There is a psx emulator for the original wii, but not on wii u. Guess I mean that's interesting. :ninja:

Wii is far too weak to run PSX full speed, and N64 cores without some serious dynarec core implemented, not to mention, the audio emulation on the WiiSX was kinda...grating

Well I remember playing a good chunk of Breath of fire 4 with little problems. But most games didn't work. Tales of destiny would soft lock everytime It has to play a voice clip. It just plays all of them one after another and it never stopped. I tried skipping the part, but another part when it had to do it again had the same result.

Still that was like years ago. So I don't know if anything changed since. Not even sure what Dynarec is or what it does. But I don't worry about that anymore since I have a psp/vita or whatever that's works.

Which had so much potential, too, and I felt that it really would've gotten a dynarec on Wii U, ugh. Oh well x3
Same :/ I was certain it would come eventually, but it seems less and less likely these days.

Ha! I found the old PS1 Beetle Core :P if anyones feeling nostalgic lol...

dynarec = dynamic recompilation, PSX uses MIPS and Wii U is PPC, has to translate architecture code for Wii U to understand. Otherwise, it's super slow
