Hey all

So, here is the problem; a friend of mine recently repaired a PSX for himself, however, when he booted it, it seemed as if it were hacked with a very old firmware, since he has told me he opened the PSX and there was no sign of any kind of external chip. I haven't checked it personally, so I'm just going for what he told me.

Here is the thing, this firm apparently only lets him play music via CDs and read the memory card(s), however, upon entering a disc it doesn't recognize it, and we both don't know what to do.

Screens of what happens:

You can't change or hack the firmware on a PS1. That just looks like one the the versions of the PS1 menu, not any kind of hack. Is he trying legit PS1 games or backups? Without a mod chip it wont load backups.

Aparenttly he has tried both legit and backup CDs, but neither of them work, although CDs with music DO play just fine

Also, idk about PsX, I'm used to Nintendo and PC, not Sony xD

Is it the correct region?

edit:

i.e. are you trying to run a US game on an EU console?

Who remembers putting the PS1 on its side or upside down for it to read games accurately?
