Hi,

I could see that there is no section on these topics, very important in the world of programming : reverse, debugging, cryptography and algorithm .
In addition, they are also fully involved in the world of consoles with regard to jailbreak and homebrew/cheat development.
How about adding it?

As with every other suggestion for a XYZ new section, you have to ask "are the other sections being dominated by threads and questions about that topic in such a way that an entirely new section/subsection is necessary?"

And, as with every other suggestion, no, they aren't. I haven't seen any massive influx of threads about reverse engineering or debugging cryptography and the like, and quite frankly the majority of people are interested in this kind of stuff/actively participate in that field aren't on GBAtemp in the first place, and probably wouldn't show up if we had a section for it anyways.

The day we get so many threads about this kind of thing that it's impossible not to see one in any given section, absolutely. But as it is, the Exploits sub section for each section fits the bill more than fine enough.

Talking about exploits seems to me a little reductive and as a final term.
To get to an exploit for example there is a lot of work to do, I believe that on GBA there are the right number of users with the right skills and willingness to work, participate in such topics ( crypto, reverse, debugging etc )
So topics like this can be posted in the right section? For example PC/Programming etc ?

The exploit sections can encompass the entire process of finding those exploits, I see no reason why it must be limited to the end result and not include information on the process to attain those exploits.

As to people being capable, while I would agree there are probably a few, it's not a large enough number to warrant an entire section. As mentioned, we don't have some massive influx of threads on these kinds of things, and I'd imagine you'd be hard-pressed to find more than 5 or 10 threads in total on this kind of thing. Most of this kind of work/discussion usually takes place on IRC or Discord servers and what have you, not so much a forum where the majority audience are end users looking for hacks.

PC/programming would also be a fine section to post threads like that as well.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
