ok, thanks

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

how does partition between NAND and emuNAND work? let's say I create emuNAND with all the hack stuff on 8.1.0. Then I want to downgrade sysNAND to a clean state, initialize sysNAND and then update it to 8.1.0 for online. will emuNAND be affected because of that downgrade and/or initialization?
emuNAND will not be affected by this. Remember that resoring your sysNAND to a clean state requires you to restore a clean NAND backup.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'm trying to update firmware from 6.2.0 custom to whatever Latest Firmware is-(not sure what latest hackable firmware is)-while keeping custom firmware.
If your Switch is unpatched, 8.1.0 is the latest version, and it's compatible with CFW. When future system versions are released, you will likely need to wait at least a few days for CFW to be updated to support the new system versions.

If your Switch is ipatched, you will need to keep your sysNAND on 4.1.0, and you can update your emuNAND to 8.1.0.

emuMMC thing or whatever it called?..-(and also don't know much about it other than what i seen about it-which is
it being some kind of emuNAND-(i feel this is going to be a major headache for me :(
There are only two big reasons to use an emuNAND:
  1. If you plan on using online play with legitimately purchased games
  2. If your Switch is ipatched and you want to play newer games
You can also use an emuNAND to keep your fuses low without installing AutoRCM, but this reason might not be worth the inconvenience.

said this is required for newer*-games-titles-(which i'm guessing is for the one i'm trying to play
and install at the moment-(Fire Emblem Three Houses*) but keeps failing for some odd reason?).. hmm , i wonder..
is it possible just because it's not named with a shorter name* and Capitalized , like example:
Fire emblem three houses .XXX instead of something like : feth.xxx?? could be messing it up?..
i had issues with this same problem in the past and finally got one working long ago..??
If you're saying here that you're struggling to install a game, I would need more information to help you.
  1. Which system version are you on?
  2. Which installer are you using?
  3. Which CFW are you using?
  4. Do you have the correct signature patches installed?

side note!: just in-case anyone wondering about this , i wouldn't mind at all to be on Firmware Version latest that i know of-(8.1.0)- ONLY EXCEPTION THOUGH!**-(has to be hackable while keeping Custom Firmware)-if not then ,
what is latest firmware that supports everything-while Keeping Custom Firmware? , like Atmosphere Glaeee' or what it called..
Atmosphere is compatible with 8.1.0. However, if your Switch is ipatched, your sysNAND must stay on 4.1.0 forever, and you will have to update an emuNAND to 8.1.0 instead.

and also i believe i possibly clicked right thing-(it gave me a few options to choose from at on menu*-from Atlas Kosmos and or Atmos-NX main Menu the latest one-
it said CFW-sysNAND and then another option said CFW-emuNAND.. i know difference between the two , but my problem is when i click the emuNAND option
it doesn't really show and or do anything that even shows that its working correctly and or even on emuNAND like the 3ds ones did long ago..-(plus i didnt even create an emuNAND that i know of??)
You must manually create an emuNAND in order to be able to boot into an emuNAND, and that requires partitioning your SD card properly with your computer. However, as I said above, you might not need to use an emuNAND.

I have an unpatched switch in autoRCM with 4.0.1 fuses on switch version 7.0.1 and a premoded switch nand backup, I want to play online with my legit games online and keep on hacking I read that I can do it with Hekate emuMMC.
Does it work with autoRCM? Do I even need to keep my fuses?

You can keep AutoRCM and boot into stock firmware with hekate to preserve fuses.
Follow this guide to set up emuMMC:
https://nh-server.github.io/switch-guide/
Although I would say it's not necessary to keep your fuses unburned and just boot normally into Horizon

This is correct. It is recommended that you use a clean sysNAND on 8.1.0 to play online with legitimate games, and a dirty offline emuNAND on 8.1.0 to do anything hack-related. If you don't want to keep the dirty emuNAND offline, you can install 90DNS and/or Incognito to the dirty emuNAND.

Does it work with autoRCM?
Yes, you can leave AutoRCM installed, and this will preserve your fuse count. However, you will have to boot OFW sysNAND using Hekate when you want to play online.

Do I even need to keep my fuses?
Preserving your fuse count only matters if you want to be able to downgrade in the future for not-yet-released exploits. However, if you have 5 fuses burnt, that means you can't downgrade to anything lower than 4.0.0, and the currently available warmboot browser exploit (Deja Vu) is probably the best 4.0.1-4.1.0 is ever going to get.

In other words, if you are not interested in using the currently available warmboot browser exploit, you will probably never have a reason to downgrade. The choice is up to you.

How do I proceed if I already have CFW and a clean nand backup(that is stored not installed)? Do I need to restore nand before proceeding with emuNAND and going online?

See my previous reply for the advice I gave you.

To use a clean sysNAND for online play with legitimate games, you need to restore the clean NAND backup. It doesn't matter when you make your emuNAND, since it's going to be dirty regardless.

If you don't care about preserving your fuse count, you can update your sysNAND in the system settings after restoring the clean NAND backup. If you do care about preserving your fuse count, then you need to do the following:
  1. Reinstall AutoRCM in Hekate
  2. Boot Atmosphere with your sysNAND (will leave your sysNAND relatively clean if you don't do anything else)
  3. Update your sysNAND in the system settings (Atmosphere will preserve AutoRCM)
  4. Use Hekate to boot OFW sysNAND whenever you want to play online

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Can I get banned if I have autorcm enabled?
AutoRCM currently cannot be detected in Horizon, so no, probably not.

Then what is better to use to play online sysNAND/emuNAND?

Hi,

So, it's time to get myself emuMMC. Unfortunately, I understand that I've done something wrong while upgrading my switch while it was hacked. I think my clean sysNAND-backup was 5.x and my new version is 7.x. Is there any way to revert to my clean sysNAND and then upgrade it to a new version (8 is OK) without making a mark on my sysNAND as hacked? I understand that with AutoRCM I can revert to 5.x and then do whatever I want, but when I do "whatever I want" (for example using Atmosphere to boot into my sysNAND), wont I mark my sysNAND as dirty for Nintendo?

If you burned fuses while updating to 7.X, then you will have to use AutoRCM to load your clean NAND dump. If you didn't, you can simply load your old NAND backup. You can check your fuse count with Hekate then compare that number with the ones from this list to see if they what firmware they match. You can also boot into Stock Mode with Hekate instead of CFW. As for risk, no one has been banned for only using AutoRCM and there is no evidence that Nintendo is actively checking users for AutoRCM so it is probably safe.

I haven't checked out the switch hacking scene in about a year so can I get some help catching up? I remember doing all these things:

  • Backing up my entire NAND and sys information
  • Updating my FW to 5.0.1 (from 4.1.0) via rajkosto's guide (the oldschool way, not with ChoiDujour)
  • Installing NSP games via tinfoil
Should I restore my original NAND or can I jump straight into Atmosphere? Back when I was hacking it wasn't even released yet.

Or is there something else I should be doing?

You don't need to restore your NAND unless its clean and you want to play online.

Draxzelex you helped me out a year ago as well. I'm glad to see you are still around. :)

Yea my NAND backup was fresh after factory purchase, but i'm not planning to play online.

So couple questions:

1. Should I just replace all the files in my sdcard with the Kosmos build on https://www.sdsetup.com/console?switch? I see this site is very popular now?
2. When I did the FW upgrade (without burning fuses) was that for the sysnand? Should I revert back to my original FW now that emunand is out?

If you don't want to use online play, then there is no reason for you to use an emuNAND or restore your previous NAND backup. If you have a NAND backup, just make sure it's somewhere safe. You don't need to make another one. I recommend doing the following:
  1. Remove all CFW files/folders from your SD card (that would be folders like /sept/ and /atmosphere/)
  2. Download the latest Atmosphere from github (currently 0.9.2)
  3. Download the latest fusee-primary (next to Atmosphere)
  4. Download these signature patches
  5. Put Atmosphere and the signature patches onto your SD card
  6. Download the 8.1.0 system update files
  7. Put the 8.1.0 folder onto the root of your SD card
  8. Download ChoiDujourDX and put it into the /switch/ folder on your SD card
  9. Put the SD into your Switch
  10. Boot your Switch into RCM
  11. Launch Atmosphere using fusee-primary
  12. Update to 8.1.0 using ChoiDujourDX. If you don't want AutoRCM installed as a way to preserve fuses and/or conveniently load RCM, make sure you untick that option. If you do want AutoRCM installed, keep that option ticked. If your SD card is formatted as exFAT, make sure you install "8.1.0 (exFAT)" in ChoiDujourDX.

Thanks for this. Would emuNAND allow me to play online without getting my switch banned? I'm all for online play as long as long as my switch has 0% chance of getting marked/banned.

Using a dirty emuNAND for hacks and a clean sysNAND for online play with legitimately purchased games is relatively safe, but the risk is yours to take.
