Coolio - last question

I got my backup on 4.0.1 - never seen any nsp or whatever
When I revert it back to 4.0.1 - how do i get it to 4.1?
or can i simply download a 4.1 FW, install that, (without autoRCM enabled) and have my "legit system" back and start from there?

(Got a Jig/Dongle, etc. pp.)

If you don't have a NAND backup from 4.1.0, then you need to use ChoiDujourNX if you want to update to 4.1.0.

Ive got one "clean Stock Backup" on 4.0.1
but when im Downgrading again, id like to have the last possible sysnand w/o burning more than my 5 fuses (=> 4.1.0)

Do i revert to 4.0.1 first and then use Choi to update to 4.1.0? Could i do directly to 4.1.0 and dont care about my Backup?
(again, my backup has never seen an nsp/homebrew/even never went online, as the first thing I did was rcm/Backup my switch when i got it)

I'd restore the NAND backup. That way, your sysNAND is relatively clean, and you won't have to worry about formatting your system (which you might have to do with a ChoiDujourNX downgrade). Regardless, there's no reason to connect your sysNAND to Nintendo's servers, and I wouldn't do it.

wich can be quite easy by turning your phone in to a hotspot. I really don't know what the disadvantage is when we live in a time with internet all around is. Just turn the hotspot thingy on on your phone and voila
many countries have to pay extra for hotspot, I know for a fact that most the uk providers and north america providers charge extra for hotspot.

Okay, cool - but how do i get to 4.1.0 from 4.0.1?
I already answered that question:
If you don't have a NAND backup from 4.1.0, then you need to use ChoiDujourNX if you want to update to 4.1.0.
In other words, you need to restore your old 4.0.1 NAND backup, and then you need to use ChoiDujourNX to update to 4.1.0.

I was talking about turning your phone in to a hotspot through your 4g connection. How does that cost extra money ?

Again no !!!! Turning your 4G internet connection from your phone in to a hotspot doesn't cost extra money. I don't think you get it
Ye, you would just be using your phone's data on another device, if it costs you more to use you phone as a hotspot, you're being ripped off somehow.

How so ? Turning your 4g on and warmbooting through that doesn't cost you much. Most countries have a 10gig data cap MIN a month so you're telling me people who have a switch don't have a phone subscription ??? Even when not having a phone subscription and a sim card you rechagrge you get like a gig a month and you're barely using that up if you warmboot through that. I have unlimited data through my phone, seeing you're from the UK i'm guessing it ain't that different for you so how does that cost money then ?

I'm not sure what you missed when you read my reply, but I was agreeing with you that it shouldn't cost more money...

Atmosphere is shutting down properly when auto rcm is enabled. This has been fixed for quite a while now. It will only be in rcm mode if you press the power button or connect it to a charger or something that will charge the switch.
Are you saying Atmosphere doesn't shut down properly?

What has that got to do with autorcm?
Of course in any league the 2nd/3rd/4th place will win games, but the one in 1st is the overall winner.

I don't have to wait to load ofw, trigger an exploit, turn the console off. So less time for dongle + autorcm.

The "I couldn't possibly carry around a dongle" argument falls short when you have to carry around another device to let you tether to apply caffeine etc. If it could be applied untethered with air plane mode on then it becomes way more interesting.

I've seen lots of claims about power problems in RCM, but I've never seen anything that substantiates it. Do you have anything scientific to back up that claim?

Obviously, but then you're stuck with an inferior solution and just have to deal with it.
Ok first off, not talking about improper shutdowns, I'm talking the fact that rcm does drain battery faster in horizon mode than if not autorcmed. (that is for all of you. the rest is for the last quoted person)
"I don't have to wait to load ofw, trigger an exploit, turn the console off. So less time for dongle + autorcm"
Yes you do if the system completely dies, see previous point, as if it completely dies, it can take longer to get into firmware. As again, autorcm screws with charging. and battery life

I don't carry another device, I have a desktop, and so I am anchored to my room if in the situation my switch completely dies. So your argument fails there for autorcm. You are likely one of few who bought a dongle. Most of us (people who use auto rcm) boot through a computer or a device that is unmovable. And or has a phone that doesn't work with sending payloads. And your autorcm solution fails to also address ipatched switches

That's incorrect.

I do agree the Caffeine is better in most circumstances though and I would be using it if I still had 4.x fuses (fuck the update nag)

Hmm it still can not convince me to restore my backup to 4.1 for warmboot. Imo any benefit?

CTCaer said it does.
"

The switch can charge normally the battery, if the BCT is intact!
In RCM AND in hekate menu.
*BCT is the boot configuration table that autoRCM corrupts.

Tests showed that it was charging with the same current, as in Horison OS.
The current it was drawing with 89% battery, was 800mA - 1000mA, using Switch wall adapter. On PC, it was the max the hub could give.

------------------------------------

The switch cannot charge normally with a corrupt BCT (AutoRCM).
In hekate, it shows similar behavior (read below).

Extra emphasis on the "normally".

With autoRCM, basically a corrupt BCT, the switch behaves differently.
There are 2 behaviors that I saw when connecting to the switch wall charger:
  • Common - It was draining 140-250mA.
  • Common (in hekate) - 200mA - 400mA
  • Rare (normally if you connect charger after powering off from HOS) - Drain of alternating 250mA and 1000mA, with surges of 2.5A."
