Hacking Going for EMUNAND. Can i restore Clean NAND question

I want to go for Emunand on SXOS, but before i can do that, i would like some help on my Clean nand backup i made back in the day.

Back in the day, i was a total noob about all this CFW thing, but i did see some videos on how to make a NAND backup before doing any CFW.

But i didnt do it right it seems. Instead of dumping BOOT0, BOOT1 and Raw NAND i did the "GPP Partitions" in Hekate ("Backup eMMC SYS" and "Backup eMMC USER" options)

This is how my backup folder is:

Now i didnt make a BOOT0 and BOOT1 backup, back then. So how do i Restore this NAND?

Can i take BOOT0 and BOOT1 from my CFW NAND backup and restore that way? And use the "Restore GPP Partitions" in Hekate? Or how do i do this?

My Clean NAND firmware version is 4.0.1 and CFW firmware version is 7.0.0 if that matters

You can also use your CFW boot0/boot1 backup if it's from the same firmware version. CFW doesn't modify boot partitions.

You are doing wrong, I think. You supposed to have a Boot0 and Boot1 as well. Redump using this:

Well i can't Redump since im already on CFW and i want to restore my Clean NAND now, and it seems i can't do that without Boot0/boot1

There's no point in doing that because ChoiDujour generates separate files for boot0, boot1, sys etc. Just copy the boot0/boot1 to the same directory you keep your NAND backup in and discard the other files.

You don't need to do all the steps, just steps 2-7.

Can't get this working, i think it might be easier for me to just downgrade to 4.0.1 then backup boot files. You wrote that i could discard the other files, what files do you mean?

Im really sorry for my noobiness, im very sad that i didnt do a full raw nand backup.

Yes but you only really need SYS and boot0/boot1 unless you want to restore to a clean NAND. USER contains your games and save data and such. I have both a full rawnand and eMMC SYS, so that I can restore a backup without affecting my games and saves.

All of this depends on your fuse count. Launch hekate and choose "print fuses" then report back.

Once we get that info we can guide you correctly.

If you use the boot0/boot1 generated with the guide it shouldn't have AutoRCM.

Okay so i finally got this working, i was having alot of trouble with error codes like "Exception: Invalid NCA header! Are keys correct?" when i used the command for my dumped Biskeys. Then i tried my Prod.keys instead, and then i got 2 Warnings.. "[WARN]: Failed to match key "encrypted_header_key" and [WARN]: Failed to match key "eticket_rsa_kek". Tried to Google it, but could'nt find anything that would help me. Then i tried to delete "encrypted_header_key" and "eticket_rsa_kek" from my prod.keys and added my Biskeys inside prod.keys.. Then ran the command again and then it worked. I now have Boot0/1 and a bunch of other files which if i understand you correctly i just get rid of those and only copy Boot0/1 into my Clean NAND backup folder right? - I just wrote all of this in case someone got the same problem as me.

Now you seem like a clever guy, since it was not working without me doing this, is this good enough? I will ofc make another NAND backup of my current CFW before restoring any of this.


AND i have another question. It seems that folder generated by Choidujour is named NX-4.0.1_exfat and the thing is... I really can't remember if i used a Fat32 or Exfat formatted SD card back then. I know that i use Exfat now, but could this course any trouble with my Clean nand by having Exfat instead of Fat32? I know there was a command for Fat32 in that guide you linked, just didn't think about it before now.

Should be good. I don't think the exfat driver is actually stored in boot0/boot1, but I might be wrong on that. Either way, you can go back and forth between exFAT and non exFAT firmwares as you wish and it'll still work just fine as long as you're not trying to use an exFAT formatted card when you don't have the exFAT firmware. But if you never did the exFAT update online and only installed it with ChoiDujourNX, Nintendo are able to tell that your console should not have the exFAT update installed as it sets a flag on their server since they need to pay licensing fees for every console that uses exFAT. So just to be safe you should make sure the boot0/boot1 is from a non-exFAT version if your original NAND backup was non-exFAT. It probably doesn't matter though, and if you like you can compare the generated boot0/boot1 files from the exFAT and non-exFAT versions, they should be identical. You can use a hash tool such as HashTab to compare them.

Im still on 4.1.0 and i would like to go EMUNAND so that i can play online. So, can i start from step 8 : TRANSFER the firmware to your Switch's eMMC:
Also, What about USER partition. I didnt get dump of user partition. Can i just skip it or i'll have to format it?

As The Real Jdbye stated you don't need user. When you create a emunand the whole NAND you are currenly using should have all the files and saves as you have now. It's just a Theory i have though, that's why i say "Should". Will find out that one for you aswell.

As long as you have Sys and Boot0/1 you can restore your clean nand backup. I didnt have boot0/1 that's why i needed to use that guide to get them again. I don't think you need that because you have Sys and Boot0/1 already.

I will write the steps i do aswell if it works, so you can follow me.

EDIT* I just read The Real Jdbye's post again, and he wrote "unless you want to restore to a clean NAND" so im alittle confused right now, but again when i made that NAND backup back in the day, i didnt play any games or anything because i just wanted to get into CFW right away. So i really don't think it matters that much. I looked inside my USER folder and i have some USER files it seems. i'll try to restore my Clean Nand without it and see how it goes
