Last edited by alimao,
Did you use a template to put the solder balls in? If you did can I have a link for it? Thanks!

1. Why?
2. Why?
OP said why. They said the Switch was freezing randomly so a reball was opted for.

I don't know if it is a common failure mode for the Switch (yet) but is a hot running and actively cooled portable device so it is well within reason that the BGA had failed in either whisker or dodgy connection (this will be lead free nastiness remember rather than leaded goodness). If the OP is also in Brazil then there is also the fun of it being hot as balls there, and humid too, which could well see it happen sooner than colder climes.

How good a long term fix this might be is up in the air*, if indeed the fix was not almost incidental to redoing the BGA, but that is the OP's problem really.

*some ponder whether the heating cycle allows a bond wire to rejoin rather than it being a BGA fault cured by redoing said same. At the same time most chips have a limited number of heating and cooling cycles they will take before becoming unreliable, more of a problem with precision devices that have to have very specific responses/characteristics but not limited to them.

Same as any hardware 360s, PS4/3, if you don’t look after it, it will fail. I’ve had to redo the thermal paste on a few switches(one only a few days ago), if not done you will have the hardware heat past it’s recommended temp, that could make bad points or damage the board and that is probably why op has done a reflow!

and that is probably why op has done a reflow!

Reball. If you have the chip off, cleaned up like the second picture and have put it back on then it necessarily has been reballed.

Reflow is when you wave a hot air station or IR lamp over the thing to hopefully have the solder get a tiny bit melty and either sort a dry joint or get a whisker to melt and flow back in.
