Hey guys,

I'm looking for advice. I'm finally getting around to modding my switch but I'm having some issues.

Switch FW: 2.0.0
Cease-and-DeSwitch fusee-launcher
hekate_ctcaer_4.9.zip

Using fusee-launcher on Linux to boot into hekate_ctcaer just fine but when I try to back up rawnand.bin it fails on verification. If I do SYSTEM and USER separately, the only thing that fails is the ~28GB USER partition. I went though all the other options and backed up everything I could. BOOT0, BOOT1, pkg1, pkg2, ipatches, fuses, kfuses, tsec_keys, and the device keys using biskeydumpv8.zip with no issues.

I've tried the backup with 2 different SD cards:
128GB Lexar Micro SDXC - class 10 633x
32GB Lexar Micro SDHC - Class 10 300x

edit: I have the exFAT update. I did this the same day I got my switch and updated from 1.0.0 to 2.0.0.

After I took the two backups(with failed USER verification), I booted Atmosphère 0.8.5 and check my fw 2.0.0 (AMS 0.8.5) opened the homebrew menu, just to check it out. After that I powered off my switch and booted normally to see if I was still on fw 2.0.0... I was.

I'm thinking if I try and backup again, it's not going to be "clean"

So I guess my question is, What should I do next?

do I NEED the USER partition? I have it, just failed verification.
What would happen if I tried to restore to it as a test?

Thanks!!

Don't use exFAT, format your card using FAT32 & 32KB Clusters. If you're using Windows then you'll need THIS TOOL.

Set your "Allocation unit size" to "32768".

The exFAT driver in the NS is not very good. There have been numerous posts with people having issues with exFAT formatted cards.

The exfat driver of Horizon has nothing to do with this.
The problem was identified and fixed

Ah sweet, Thank you!

So, the backup should be fine, it was just a bug with the verification?

ofc I'll make another backup and save that too, I'm just concerned it will not be a "clean" backup because I've booted into Atmosphère 0.8.5

It won't be a "clean" backup anymore, but you can always manually create a NAND backup from scratch...

how? the link you posted is about updating with choi and making a 'normal' as is nand backup.

Yes, making a "normal as is NAND backup" from scratch. You can ignore the upgrading/downgrading part, just choose the FW version that you want to create a NAND backup for. The procedure is the same either way.

When you write you can manually create a nand backup from scratch, it makes it sound you could actually rebuilt a clean nand somehow, instead of just making another backup.

Especially in the context of him already knowing how a nand backup is made.

That's exactly how I'm reading the message.

Taking a NAND backup via hekate_ctcaer from my switch will not be clean because I've booted Atmosphère 0.8.5.

I can manually create a "clean" NAND backup via my PC and switch private keys. Which, I mean, sounds reasonable. I assume the OS'es are all the same, they're just encrypted with my keys.

If that's true, I'm just going to stick with my "dirty" backup in case I break something. If i ever want to go online (unlikely), I'll just manually build a clean one or buy a new switch. Plus, the instructions are for windows and I'm not up for installing windows right now.

EDIT:
I cant post links but I've found this while reading the above linked website:
BIS keys are also good to backup so you can reinstall any firmware version manually should your NAND backup become corrupted or lost.
