I sold off my ps3 games due to getting a jb phat ps3. I have enough store credit for a ps4 or even a ps4 pro but I don't know if I should or wait?
I know ps4 pro has like a performance mode not sure if the local game stores update the firmware or not before selling.
Should I get one now and just not update it ? I don't play online multiplayer games really.

I'm guessing the jb scene will eventually update for newer firmwares that are currently out ? I'm honestly new to the home brew scene.

It’s still possible to get a low firmware pro from retail if you check the CUH model ID and go for specific bundles.

For example the exclusive GOW pro is 4.7X iirc.

Check out PS4ident on my github.io for more info :)

Something to keep in mind, if the shoppe you had in mind is GameStop as a courtesy they update firmware on used and refurbished systems.

Even if it's a local business I wouldn't be beating around the bush about firmware request. Business owner, they may have a stockpile of systems in back that just haven't been touched as stock on storeroom floor hasn't sold, or even leads from an employee. I went through 2 Nintendo Switch's and the kid working at Walmart knew exactly what I was doing and makes it a lot easier talking about it with them without lying.

It's not a gamestop it's a local shop. Feels kinda awkward asking them about the firmware. The local pawn shop I didn't care to ask about ps3 but I've took over $300 of games to the game store :D Most of it was anime dvds but also ps3 games. I might get someone else to ask.

Someone asked me this recently, and I think it's better to just go with slim at this point, to really get the most out of a pro your going to also need a 4k tv, and 4k content, the pro's bluray player doesn't even support 4k, after buying the system games etc. its to much of investment with the PS5 rumored to be right around the corner, not to mention if your modding it right now, your not even going to have full access the library, just get a slim, and a psvr, maybe throw a 2tb in it, that should more than hold you over for the rest of the systems life span, wait for the PS5 if your concerned about future proof features since it will smoke the Pro out the gate, and will likely run all its content.

Go for a ps4 with a moddable firmware. The exploit for current firmware probably exists but there is no info on when will be released. The Ps5 won't hit the stores before next year, will be very expensive and who knows when or if will be exploited. About the pro, if you have, or plan to buy a 4k tv or plan to play a lot with the psvr it could be the best option.

PS5 rumored to be right around the corner

Last year there was those interviews to investors. 2021 was the consensus wrapping the lifespan at an eight year run for the console. And they are usually launched in Fall after E3 and during the game release rush?

Still.. 2021, that's a long fkn time to wait. This last year from 4.05 to what we have now has been a long fkn time to wait. That is going to be pure chit pulling a double duty 2x year more wait if hackers are seriously holding out to release an updated / final jailbreak for the system.

Just my little two cents: Go for a moddable OG or Slim. the Pro really isnt worth it IMO. To get yourself closer to Pro specs, upgrade the harddrive with a SeaGate 2TB Firecuda Hybrid HDD.

Dont listen to the majority of these fools. Get a pro. On my 4k HDR TV, my 5.05 pro renders beautifully. Do it.

"Not everyone has 4k or her or 4khdr". If you dont now, you will in the future. I doubt you will upgrade your 1080p for a 720. You will only go up... upgrade. Buy the pro now, reap the benefits now or later. Buy a non pro now, never get 4k hdr later. Your choice.

If you have a 4k TV or planning on getting one then get a PS4 Pro. There are some PS4 Pro enhanced games which give better performance & higher resolutions. PSVR works better on a Pro.
On JB side PS4 Pro models on 5.05 are quite rare. Your stuck on a lower FW & can't fully utilize it. PS2 Emulation with boost mode handles better on a Pro model. Some Pro enhanced games require a game update which may need a higher system Firmware. There has been no newer Kexploit since middle of last year although some have teased it.

If your on a budget or not bothered then get a PS4 Slim which does not enhance player experience but has HDR.
On JB side PS4 Slims on 5.05 are easily available at a good price.

I think HDR makes much more of a difference than the 4K. When people upgrade to a 4k HDR TV and get a Pro I think that's where most of the "it looks waaaay better" impression comes form. Slim and OG PS4 both have HDR, which seems to get overlooked.

Not saying a Pro won't make it look better at all, but imo it was definitely a missed opportunity. 5.05 and under Slims are still relatively easy to find, and next gen is just around the corner anyway. Personally I'd look for a Slim on a good deal unless you have a really good TV, the money to spend, and the patience to track down a Pro.

I have a Pro and I think that was the right decision for me, considering I don't care about jb and I have a 4K HDR TV since a couple of years ago. (they are not so uncommon as you all imply)

Still I like my Xbox One S more, it at least plays my 4K BluRays and Audio CDs.

I think HDR makes much more of a difference than the 4K.
I agree, 4K looks great but HDR makes more of a difference when playing games (it does it for me with Forza Horizon 3 at least).

I got a pro because I will keep it for a long time and will eventually have a 4k TV. I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting a slim now and replacing it in a couple of years. But I still have a ps2, ps3 and Wii hooked up. If you will get rid of the ps4 before you get a 4k TV then its just the extra frame rate.

Why do you sell PS3 JB ? I have PS3 JB and PS4 JB. I am keeping both. I won't sell PS3 not anytime sooner. I might sell PS3 in the near future but not right now anyway.

I sold my updated PS3 4.83 slim to get a jb PS3 and sell my games.
I have about $400 credit now but I'm thinking waiting until they catch up on a firmware can play red dead 2. I don't have a 4k tv and don't plan to. I may watch the jb news and prices at the shop.
Going to call now just to see their prices.
Edit ......
200 for a 500gb 250 for 1 tb and 350 for a pro...

I would get a regular PS4 and with the money saved to get a PS5. Rumors are saying it will be backwards compatible

PS5 is about two years from launch & is unlikely to be hacked on day 1, if it ever is.

And if it's like the ps2/ps3/ps4 then the first models will be big and loud, so it might be worth waiting before buying a ps5 anyway. At which point there might be a ps5 pro.

So if you can find a ps4 pro <= 5.05 for a reasonable price, then I still think it's worth it. In any case, the money you save buying a ps4 slim won't buy you a ps5 anyway.
