Yeah, they have a timebomb to sleep the system "forever"... I would assume... that's why I switched my gurlfriend's system to a GBA temp kernel. Hopefully they didn't add anything like that... but at the worst it has the unix issue of clock reset.

no sir it (the flashcard) will just refuse to boot if the system clock is past the date . . . you can change the consoles date to before the timebomb and it (the flashcard) will boot again

Not as bad, still. There was a post here that had kernels for cards like that if you want to switch over. Not as graphically fancy as some alternatives but it works well.

People also mentioned it in newegg reviews

Hmm... well I guess I'll just make sure my internal clock never reaches 2024
Personally, I think they will release new kernel to support 20xx when it's near to 2024.

Find this in Reddit.
"I got a download link for it (Directly from their site)
http://www.r4isdhc.com/KerneDownload/R4i-V4.0b English.zip
Edit: It sets the time bomb to 2024 and adds a "Sleep" Function."

The kernel works for R4isdhc dual core and R4isdhc rts lite 2019 versions as well, the non-timebomb R4 card is R4i gold 3ds plus this one.

assuming they are still producing (new) flashcards using the same chip-set then they will, but if the company goes under (like many r4 clones before it) or updates hardware then they obviously wont . . . lets just hope they are still around when the time comes
