Hacking SXOS external HDD doubts and clarification

Hello! I have some questions and will try to be short on them

I started used SXOS with external HDD for the games and everything is working fine, but, I have some doubts here:

1 - Is there really a difference in using the 2.0 or 3.0 port on the dock? (like loading speeds and overal performance)
2 - I have read here that there is a chance of burning the ports with time duo the power usage for the HDD, using a HDD with external power source is the most optimal choice then?
3 - I´m using now a self-powered Samsung 2.0 HDD for the games, with only one cable (not na y one), even so, I´m getting the risk of burning the outside ports of the dock because of the power usage?
4 - There is a bug on SXOS (I´m using 2.0.1) that makes an error on the home menu when you have duplicate games in HDD and internal SD, they have fixed that in the newer versions or I can´t have the same games on both medias? (for convinience in some games with the portable and docked mode)


I suppose that´s it! If someone can help, you greatly appreciate! (maybe these are doubts of other users just as well)

Get a y cable and update sx os? Seems like that would resolve both your concerns.

1.- Right now is no difference between the 2.0 or the 3.0 because there is not 3.0 speeds enable right now on your Nintendo Switch.
2.- Is true that you can burn your ports. So is better if you have an external power supply HDD or a really low consumption enerhy USB like an USB stick.
3.- If is a self power (I understood is one with external power suply) You dont need a Y cable. That is when you need more power on a HDD with no external power supply
4.- Use SX OS 2.5

I would like to see some data on this issue. I'm pretty confident the reason that you theoretically could burn the point out is because there might not be a rate limiter on the dock and the hard drive is attempting to pull More voltage than what is safe. I also feel pretty confident that a y cable would split the required voltage from the hard drive thereby reducing the likelihood of the port drawing too much current.

I'm ok being wrong on this if someone can provide the data to convince me this is not the case.

The wii had USB 2.0 ports that couldn't power non-powered external hard drives so you had to use a y cable to provide the correct current. there is never any danger with the Wii but I understand there might be differences in the rate limiter on USB ports between these different hardware's.

Can we know if he has the risk of burning ports with this voltage/specifications?

The spec for USB2 ports is .5A for power USB3 gets 1A IF the Switch dock complies with that you would be OK with the USB3 port or use a Y cable with the USB2 ports. Your drive with a single cable in the USB2 port will eventually burn out the port or even the entire dock. An additional factor is the power supply, it must provide more than the total power requirement for the Switch, the dock and the drive.
If you must use an external HDD these always work: Buffalo DriveStation Axis Velocity High Speed External Hard Drive 2 TB If you search Amazon they are currently about $110. Yes they are big, about the same size as the dock, but they have their own power supply. These drives work with everything from the Wii and PS4 to the Switch. Be aware that 2TB is the largest drive that can be used both easily and reliably. Remember to prep the drive by using mini tool partition wizard to delete all existing partitions and create a new FAT32 partition.
