Assuming this could be reconciled with the various licences and whatnot (I have not read them but there are plenty of projects that do similar things) then seems like they made an offer for some work and/or software. Hardly unprecedented (see something like the moonshell author's sakura stuff back on the DS) or unethical, or indeed something that might be defined as a bribe. It is not an entirely unreasonable bid for such things either.

For the sake of the nascent Switch homebrew community I guess I am glad it is to remain open, and this may see some discussion happen. For what it is worth I saw the DS and PSP scenes evaporate practically overnight once it became apparent IOS could return real money, and nowadays android has taken over there. By similar token we never saw a 3ds scene really arise and reach its potential. The injection of money into the game changes everything.

TX being garbage as usual. Not at all shocked - they've BEEN actively doing damage to the scene, and people defending this are just as bad. "We're going to pay you to stop working on this open source project, make it closed source and exclusive to our shitty stolen software, and not publicly release it so more people get to use it."

It would also be illegal to violate the license behind Libretro's software, at least, in a first-world country. Hardly a valid excuse in this case. This is a bribe, don't try changing the definition to suit your preferences.
have you ever been offered money to work at a competing company? or to keep working in your current company and give up on an offer of the competitor?

not a bribe at all. but it's ok if you disagree. one day you'll change your mind. it just takes time.

Anything trying to call this a 'job offering' or 'not a bribe' = InstaIgnore.

Seeing as how those things have been around for years, there's no telling how many 'employees' they have on this board.

Is that a suggestion that I have a clone army? pls. I'm a sporadic participant here at best.

Some ppl have a hard time knowing the difference between an Offer and a Bribe. Entirely different, but hey grab a shovel if you think thats dirt
This isn't a bribe, it's a simple business offer and proposition.

Please read the definition of the word "bribe" before claiming it has no correlation with the subject at hand. The meaning of "bribe" and "business opportunity" are not incompatible. You did take English class, did you not?

Expect this is a bribe. They offered him money to break the law and stop working on his open source projects. Literally looking at every definition of bribery, this is an act of bribery.

For the record, I'm the one who contacted the RetroNX developers at the request of Team Xecuter. It was my understanding that they wanted to donate to the project in exchange for a possible support forum on the TX boards to drive more traffic there. They didn't say anything to me about wanting to make the app exclusive to the mod or I never would have agreed to facilitate contact between them, since the Libretro devs and I go way back.

Is it breaking the law criminally, or is it civil IP infringement? Anyway I wasn't aware of the licensing issues involved when I posted my first comment - but it still sounds like a (shitty) headhunting offer more than a bribe.

A cover story? Nice try

Was hoping TX was paying more than 6k. Hopefully they come back at them with a better offer.
