So I have a backup switch that was "bricked", it powers on and then shows a "can't start the software" message and reboots.
I thought emunand might help. I used sxos and created the emunand partition. Then I get the emunand disabled button, but when I tap it, nothing happens, it does not enable the option.

Do I need a license to enable it?

...Why would you even buy a bricked Switch in the first place? First of all this "emunand" is nothing more than a smaller copy of the sysnand. So if the sysnand is fucked so will the emunand

I didn't mean to buy a bricked console. I bought a used console, it was supposed to be working fine and it didn't boot. Person blocked me, been trying to find a work around ever since. Anyways, why I got it is not the point.

Is it hardware or software brick? Have you tried restoring a 6 image to the emunand?
I'm pretty sure it's a software brick. It powers on, shows the Nintendo logo, then the switch logo, then the error message, the joycon sync and the sound from the joycon can be heard, the clicky sound. But nothing else. I'm not sure what 6 image is? Can you point me to it?

Just do a search for switch sysnand image. Then use Hekate to restore that to the switch. Can't directly link but that may help you :)

Quick question I have another switch, working no problem. If I backup that nand, can I then load that nand on the console that won't boot? Or is the nand specific to each console?

I don't believe the nand is specific but maybe someone else could confirm here? Might be a good shout.

In fact I'm sure its not it's just a system image. You could try it but it has all from your old system on it. If you do that then jump straight into a system recovery and format it .

Would that be better or just going through something like the no burn guide?
I think this is for a different case. This is the GPT repair description.
Another neat addition for people who had an unhappy accident while playing with their NAND is the "GPT Repair" option. This will repair your NAND's partition table if you ever need to. Again, this functionality is for advanced users who know what they're doing only. Please be cautious when using this functionality.

All the partitions are encrypted with system unique keys, and there's also prodinfo (which is also system unique). So you cant just restore another systems nand backup
