Hello everyone in the switch hacking scene! I have hacked the GameCube/wii/wii u/3ds no problem. I am about to be getting a Nintendo switch and was curious about the hacking on it. I have read a couple threads, but still have questions about how exactly to go about hacking the switch as I do not want to make any errors. Where is the best place to buy a switch that can be hacked? Also when I receive my switch and hack it, there is no way to go online without a ban right now correct? I find it odd how we can go online on the Wii U/3ds and receive no bans unless we cheat in games, but the switch auto bans for CFW?

You can determine if a switch is hackable or not by their serial number https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-informations-by-serial-number.481215/

You probably won’t get banned just for using CFW and homebrew, but cheating in games will get you banned from online in that specific game, and pirating games will ban you from the eshop, online in all games, and downloading game and firmware updates

Okay thanks! I am just looking to buy a non patched switch so I can hack it for coldboot CFW. Doubt I’ll be using piracy, but definitely CFW. Thanks for the info.

Hmm what do you mean by coldboot? (I’m asking because it seems that everyone’s definition of it is different :P )

Although it should be safe to use homebrew online, I’d recommend using airplane mode while your using homebrew apps, just to be extra safe :)

Edit: oh also don’t use NSP homebrew, it’s basically suicide

The way they're cracking down, using any cfw and going online afterwards without backing up/restoring your system nand could result in a ban. It seems they have the tools to track it at the very least.

If you don't want to risk online functionality, I would stay offline until emunand is available, or hold off hacking until then, or backup and restore your nand when the time comes. Anything less is taking a risk. You can just read a few pages of

To get an idea of how serious the N is this time. In any event, congrats on pulling the trigger on the switch. It's really a great device :)

That only applies if you play pirated games, which the OP doesn’t intend on doing (I’ve been using CFW since May, never restored my nand, and have been online almost the whole time and I’m not banned)

I wouldn't risk it, but I guess that's me. I've read a few horror stories (modded skyrim = ban) that would give me pause.

I won't articulate my thoughts on ban waves and the implications therein and jinx anyone, but yeah. That too.

I've used homebrew and have modded games, usually while doing those things I put my switch in airplane mode and I'm still alive not banned, but maybe I'm just lucky :P

Luck probably has something to do with it and also that Nintendo has always been inconsistent with how it bans. Consistency in implementing rules leads to people knowing the exact work arounds. From Nintendo’s perspective better to keep them guessing and fearful.

I've seen conflicting uses of XCI and NSP going around. What's the difference, and which is more likely to get banned? I'm sure one is the cart and one is the installation package (similar to .3ds and .cia) but can't tell which.

.NSP is theoretically more likely to get you banned because they are dumps of eShop games which you can only use if you buy them from the eShop so if Nintendo sees you playing an .NSP game that you don't own, you may get flagged for a ban. .XCI on the other hand is not as easy to prove it was pirated as you can borrow cartridges from a friend but there have been plenty of people banned for using it both offline and offline. .NSP-only bans have been far and few between but the reason for this may be attributed due to Nintendo collecting data for the next banwave.

there is no coldboot exploit as of now. Warmboot is not even released. Other than that if you care about online I suggest you get sx-pro/os and stick to xci games for offline play and only go online on official firmware. This method has the least risk of ban. When you start installing nsp's and using layeredfs the risks get higher.

For example a boot right into CFW instead of booting to system menu, then HB, then CFW. An ideal CBHC like on the Wii U. I’ll make sure to just stay offline then as I don’t really need online features honestly.

That kind of coldboot isnt currently possible, there is a chance that it’ll become possible on 1.0.0 in the future and a even smaller chance on 3.0.2
