Nintendo has officially responded to this with the following statement:

“A very small number of consumers have been using modified Nintendo Switch systems to display inappropriate or unauthorized material in certain online games. Nintendo always strives to provide a positive experience for all consumers and this includes continuously monitoring all threats to its products’ security and taking swift and strong action to prevent them. Modified Nintendo Switch systems have been banned.”

I am accept no liability if your console or account is banned from following this tutorial.

This tutorial will let you use any image you want as a custom user icon. I assume you already know how to use layeredFS and Hekate.

You will need:
- DevMenuApp exefs and extracted romfs (not romfs.bin)
- LayeredFS working through Hekate
- Donor title (Pokemon Quest confirmed working)

Step 1: Place the exefs folder and romFS folder in Atmosphere/titles/donortitleid as you do with all other apps

Step 2: Patch main.ndpm with the donor titleid.

Step 4: go to \donortitleid\romfs\accounts

Here the test icons are located, that DevMenuApp load in.

Take your replacement image (needs to be 256x256) and replace one of the icons in this folder.

Step 5: Put your sd card back into Switch and run Hekate IPL with LayeredFS patches.

Step 6: Open your donor title, and the dev menu should open. If not try a new donor title until it works (Pokemon Quest works)

Go to the account tab:

Now click on your user and edit profile image:

Now select the image you replaced and you are done!

No, you need LayeredFS which only works with hekate so far.

But im really wondering, now with SX OS, DevMenu, Homebrew and everything, is there nothing planed to add USB support for storage? Stupid SD Cards are so fuckin expensive and limited to 400GB =)

How did Nintendo ever let this happen in the first place? I thought the whole reason to use predefined photos would be so your profile picture sent to servers would just be an index as opposed to an actual image...

Yea i thought it might have been an index when i looked into the IPC calls ages ago, but then you have to consider that you can have your mii as a pfp. So it has to be saved as image data.
Anyways, i wanted a nice pfp to look at every time i boot a game. So if they crack down on this because of 2 people...
