Instructions unclear. What is this db.xml thing and where do I get it? I tried using both the files in databases but neither worked. The app still can't find my games.

I don't think anyones answered you yet but no, no one has been banned by just Homebrew to my knowledge. The only way to consistently get banned is to go online with a pirated game and even then, it's a soft ban. (I'm pretty sure the only thing it does is ban you from playing your pirated games online. Legitimate games still work.)
Hey thanks for noticing me! I'm glad to hear no bans for that so far. I'm honestly more concerned I'll get banned from the shop and stuff so I may still wait for now. Normally I'd be all over nodding with this stuff like with the 3ds but this is different somehow.

Hi guys, new release, finally :)

https://github.com/Cpasjuste/psnes/releases/tag/1.2

Changelog
  • remove "db.xml" dependency, remove the file to do so (you can still use it for a better experience).
  • add high resolution support (fix Secret Of Mana menus, - Kirby 3 water, Yoshi Island...)
  • add/fix Super FX (Star Fox still have some graphical glitches)
  • add video filters (TV2X, SMOOTH, SUPEREAGLE, 2XSAI, SUPER2XSAI, EPX, HQ2X). Some filter will slow down some games.
  • fix a crash in unzip functions (when multiples roms are loaded)
  • major speed improvement
  • fix per rom config applied to all roms
  • print snes9x messages to screen
  • add 2 players capability (untested)
  • add single joycon mode: enable SINGLE_JOYCONS in options, (+) or (-) now send (start+select), (+) or (-) + R send menu key (todo: find a better solution)
  • sort rom list alphabetically
  • fix (+) and (-) keys inverted in config menu
  • improve preview box
  • add switch buttons images in options
  • and more changes/fixes i can't remember...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

By the way, if someone wants to help/contribute, i hate making readmes :D So you can help in that : https://github.com/Cpasjuste/psnes/blob/master/README.MD

is the roms names need to be exactly the same as the xml

and is there a way not to depend on the db.xml and load whatever inside the roms folder with the .sfc extension

i have removed the file and the list was empty using the last updated version
thats why i am asking

Maybe your rom path is wrong then ?
i am on SX OS and tried to put the psnes on the folder like /switch/psnes/psnes.nro and didn't show up on homebrew menu
so i moved it to the root and it showed up-> so the rom path is /switch/psnes

is there something not right here????

I haven't tried the latest release but just wanted to say the one before worked great. Not sure why people struggled with the database, maybe they don't have experience with Hyperspin?

Weird I have psnes in my switch folder and HBL found it.

But yes roms go in switch/psnes/roms

The Hyperspin romsets are garbage. Contrary to what everyone seems to think they do NOT conform to a current No-Intro set and are missing lots of stuff. Plus people like to run hacks, translations, etc.

It's why the default database comes from dat-o-magic :D

"i'm on SX OS"

structure like this

/switch/psnes.nro ----> as /switch/psnes/psnes.nro not detecting on menu
/switch/psnes/roms/

You may have a problem with your sdcard (or hbmenu/psnes.nro corrupted) as "/switch/psnes/psnes.nro" must work.

I never said anything about the romset. My point was that people seem to have no idea how to handle a database.. which setting up Hyperspin kinda forces you to learn.

That's fine but forcing a stock No-Intro set isn't going to allow people to run hacks and translations either. For example, my personal SNES romset has 360+ translated roms. This version seems to still want to only recognize files from a dat. :(
I guess you didn't read the changelog, if you remove the "db.xml" file from the psnes folder then it wont use it, and just list any files in the rom folder. Also, the database stuff was firstly added because the ui is based on my pFBA port which is based on FBA which does use a database to handle drivers. Also, using a database allow you to have nice name for roms while having crappy rom filenames. It also allow things like manufacturer, year and other stuff to be displayed in the ui. You can also see missing roms, clones etc. You can have a clean database, and add you rom hacks there for example. Well, there is a lot of advantages.

Yes, I saw that. The db snuck back into my folder when I re-copied the files but it's working now. I'm looking forward to playing the translation of Sanrio World Smashball with the hack to make the pig a playable character. It's the small things. :D
