Wow I haven't been here in ages, so maybe this has already been asked and/or answered;; I'm not even sure if this is the correct category, so I'm sorry if it's not ;o;
You see, I recently downloaded the japanese version of Fates on my old 3DS with custom firmware off of freeshop and it works fine! But the problem is that it only downloaded the first six chapters, up until the branch, and I am not sure as to how to download the actual routes to play. It let me choose a route, but now when I want to start the next chapter, it tells me to download the rest of the game data, and when I tap on "Yes", it says I require a system update. Two things: a) I haven't updated this specific console in months, so I'm not sure how to go about it- like do I update Luma or the console first? or should I do it at all?, and b) would it even let me download the rest of the game as I am on an american console, or does Luma help with the region lock on this?
Is there any way I can download the routes, or should I look for a rom/cia to install through FBI? Thanks in advance and I'm sorry for the inconvenience (I am very shy, haha;; )

In the case of the European version, one installs the game titled 'Fire Emblem Fates', which only includes the first six chapters, then one installs the DLC titled 'Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright', which includes the three paths and all additional content ever published for this game. It is a misnomer, but that is the way it is. At least is the only DLC title.

The Japanese version might face a similar situation. Check the title keys site to get a better idea.

And you do not need to update your system. It told you so because you were trying to connect to the eShop (to purchase and download the desired paths), which will only run on the latest firmware.

Oh!, and save yourself time and only play 'Conquest'. The story is terrible in all three paths, but at least Conquest's gameplay is addictively good.

I see... I only found the base game for japanese, but Im not sure where to find the rest... if I only need to install it as if it was regular add-on content then it might be easy once I can find it.
And well... let's say I already own all three routes in english on my N3DS, I just wanted to try it out in japanese out of curiosity (and totally not because I wanted to pet Takumi's face). Fates is actually my favorite game, just Treehouse messed a lot of things up ;w; but still, thanks!! I'll look deeper into it when I'm not busy with school
