Hello,

I have a console in 3.0.1 and I recently bought "1.2 Switch" but it asks me to update the console.

Do you know which firmware the game will install ?

I just bought the console two weeks ago and I'm afraid to install a firmware > 4.1.0

Can you reassure me ?

Thank you

Buy used games with serial on the back ending with 000.

Just update, unfortunately it seems like all firmware versions are exploitable.

All firmware versions will be exploited however on newer firms it may not be as easy to do. The exploit must be installed via another exploit chain or a hardware modification so keep in mind that a software based install could work on the newest firmware when they release but an update would easily fix/disable that.

Chances are it has 4.1 or lower on the cartridge so you should be fine as 3.0.1-4.1 have the same level of hackability.

Yes, I think it's not possible that is the 5.0 because the update is too recent.

Thank you for your answers

I'll just drop this here before confusion sets in.

short summary for pre-Mariko units:
1.0.0: has a nice non-coldboot solution, and is the most likely to get a Holy Grail CFW-launching exploit in the future
<3.0.1: has enough power to avoid a hardmod immediately, even if you'll probably want to just do the hardmod 'cuz the hardmod's so easy
<=4.1.0: will eventually see a hardmod-less solution, but will need that 'minor hardmod' at launch
>4.1.0: that 'minor hardmod' is required; though we may find a solution to avoid this in the future

I guess even without a hard mode you should open your switch anyway, clean it and put proper thermal paste in it.
I'm going to order new shells and a new battery once my current battery craps out, and add the paste then, while I have it open.

The < sign means "less than" and doesn't include the thing on the right.

<= means less than or equal and includes the thing on the right as well as everything less than it.

< 3.0.1 means only things less than 3.0.1, does not include 3.0.1 itself. So that would be everything 3.0.0 and less.

My mistake, stoner moment.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
