I dunno why so many people in these threads seem to think that when one pays for a console they own it, because that's not the case. When you purchase a console, you are pretty much paying for the privilege to use it against the guidelines set by the manufacturer. Every console now has a EULA one must agree to before even using it which is a legally binding contract (at least in the US). No, you don't have the right to misuse the equipment. It's not yours. As stated before, though, it obviously wouldn't be economically sane for a company to pursue small time end-users.

i know i own it. Its mine and i do whatever i want with it. Nor Apple, Nintendo or any other company is abive the law. I dont know if in the usa, because of the lobbies, its like that. But in europe we own what we pay for.

If thats true then every console manufacturer should be specifically telling people that when they part with their hard earned money to buy the newest games console they wont own what they are buying. What a complete load of B******s. That might be how things are in the US but not here. We own what we pay for and get free healthcare too!! Maybe that's why in the US tech is cheaper (because you never own it)

Well in Portugal from time to time people are arrested and sites are locked, but they are not after console modders\hackers, they are after trackers\downloading sites...

One of the biggest trackers from here were closed and the guy got wrested, then someone made a new one and is closed for years too and the guy behind got arrested and the TV news even joke about it, fags... (The news were like everyone in those forums\trackers are criminals, then they even show some user names and joke about their nicknames in the news, they have shown us all as HUGE criminals that everyone should even laugh at us all from that forum...).

I used that forum every day and I didn't even used the tracker, but according to the news I'm big criminal and my nickname online would be a joke, screw them all... I liked the PS3\Xbox and PC hardware parts of the forum...

This quote comes straight from the box of my Nintendo Switch:-

"IMPORTANT: Read the enclosed document before use. Nintendo may automatically update your console. Your console is not designed for use with any existing or future unauthorised device or software that enables technical modification of the console or the software. Any such unauthorised use may render your console unplayable and result in removal of content"

From that statement I get that if Nintendo detects you using a mod they are allowed to brick your device (lets see them try), or remove your content (online ban I would imagine). Says nothing about the hardware not being ours!

Lol I bet if they go that way Nintendo will probably loses in court if ppl move their feets...

Makes me remember M$ banning hammer than then corrupted everything, I had to solder a lot of cables to connect to the PC serial port if I remember well to fix it. Then ppl went on court M$ lost had to pay a lot and made an update to fix the corruption :P

Didnt SONY get rinsed in court too because their firmware was flawed and the packet data they were sending was unencrypted which resulted in a lot of personal and financial data loss? Just saying! Most of the mods around make our consoles more secure (brick proof) and an overall better system. I'm not talking about piracy but simple things like the Wii having an optical drive but can't play DVD's yet it can after being modded. PS2, XBOX, Wii and more not being able to play video from network shares but can after a mod. If we part with alot of money for anything; tech especially we expect it to have longevity and if modding it increases its usability and function I say the manufacturers would be idiots to fight it. How many consoles have been sold just because the user wants to mod the system? I know for a fact that over 75% of the consoles i've got I only bought them to mod and tinker with.

Do you guys think that copyright infringement is also illegal on countries where Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft are not officially distributing their software?

What Countries? China?

Copyright infringement is illegal no way round that but would a US company take on China in such a situation?

Hell yeah Xbox original with XBMC was the best media center ever made for years, I used it almost only to play music all day and night with its awesome internet radios of latest electro music back then and a huge amount of cool visual effects similar to Winamp on PC.

But awesome was also the Dreamcast, just download a game, burn into a CD and play :) good times...
