Hello, I have a Dragon Quest 2DS LL I imported from Japan and I want to change the region on it or put CFW on it so I can play US games. Currently the firmware is on 11.4.0-37J but I'll probably have to update it to the latest firmware if I want to redeem a DLC code it came with. Not entirely sure I'll have access to it once I put CFW on it and change the region but would rather try and redeem than it expire and go to waste. I also purchased an R4 B9S card for installing boot9strap. So before I proceed with just following the guide is there anything I should do or not do? Just want to make sure I don't f anything up and brick this console. Thanks.

waste . . . ? thats what ebay is for! not only can you sell that code but you can even sell the empty 2ds box and instructions

I've tried selling virtual items such as codes on ebay before and ended up getting screwed. I think I'd rather try and redeem it. But thanks for the suggestion.

you have no worries ntrboot will work on the latest fw so even if you updated it (btw with ofw that is the worst case scenario) you will still be able to install b9s . . . my personal advice would to get a good size (micro)sd card (64gb is the most often recommended size [personally i have a 128gb in my n3dsxl]. . . sd cards 64gb and over must be formatted to fat32 cluster size 32 . . . although a cluster of 64 will work as well)

Do I want a big SD card for the R4 or for the system? The system comes with a 4GB one and I have a 16GB one from my SuperCard DSTWO I was gonna use for the R4? You think I'll need bigger?

for the system definitely for example pokemon ultra sun has takes up 3.44 GB

the r4 however only needs like 1/4 a gig of space to install b9s and it only needs an sd for (literally) less than 1 minute (once it is set up on the flashcard the sd can be removed and it will retain its b9s install ability however if you want to use it for nds roms then you will need to restore it then obviously dedicate a sd card to it)

Ok but for right now I don't need to worry about the size of the card for the system if I'm not going to download any games on it, correct? I have an eshop account with games tied to another 3DS I have so I planned on just creating a new NID for this console and if I have CFW on it I probably can't access the eShop anyways...

correct for cfw installation alone the provided 4 gb sd is fine

no you can fully use the eshop on cfw. . . although some people (myself included) claim that the eshop will delete any unauthorized dlc you have installed while others claim to have never experienced it

Ok, cool! I figured I wouldn't be able to access it. And will I have to do anything special if I get a bigger SD card later?

besides formatting it to fat32 not really . . .
format to fat 32
put the sd in the 3ds let it create home menu management
then copy paste the old sd to your pc
then from the pc to the new sd
done
