Hacking How do I remove a homebrew?

I just purchased a Wii of kijiji and it has a homebrew on it. I really don't have any need for it and would like to just update and have a normal Wii but I am worried the update may brick my Wii. I formatted Wii system memory and wiped everything but it seems like the homebrew is still on it.
Does anyone have any tips on how to remove a homebrew and or can I update before removing the homebrew without being worried about my Wii being bricked?

yes you COULD install clean IOS, system menu, everything with some apps... but why? if everythings running dont change it.

afaik, u can't completely clean the system of all traces. u can remove channels by deleting them if that's what you're asking.

Yeah, you can. It's just a complete pain and isn't necessary.
