Homebrew New to 3ds homebrewing

So I recently purchased a o2ds, and wanted to homebrew it, to play emulators mostly. Did this a lot with my Wii back in the day.
So i'm not too unfamiliar with this stuff but i can tell 3ds is completely a different road compared to wii.
Long story short, i did the userland thing, got it to boot up (after it fails a couple times and freezes a couple other times)
I just wanted to know now if i can add the Homebrew launcher to my homescreen for a faster easier way to but it up or not rely on the userland rpgmaker player glitch.
Also, the GBA emulator that came with my homebrew kit keeps freezing on a yellow screen.

Any tips for a new guy?
I remember reading a couple things about a couple booter things, but didn't fully understand. Was almost like reading a new language that i couldn't understand.

Putting the Homebrew Launcher on the Home Menu requires custom firmware, which you cannot get if you have 11.4+ and basic Homebrew. For more information on how to obtain custom firmware on 11.4+, please visit http://3ds.guide. I cannot help you with the yellow screen crashes though.

Thank you for your reply, i thought so. Then i would like to figure out how to maybe resolve the crashes. Thank you also for the link, i'll make sure to do some reading up and learning. Much appreciated

If you haven't downloaded the DLC, do it. I read it helps to make it much more stable. You should take a look at http://cfw.guide/ntrboot/ for the easiest way to get a stable entry point. It links to the relevant part of the Guide @KunoichiZ linked at the end.

The emulator is stable on CFW. Not sure what version is included in the starter pack. Latest version is 0.6.0.
