so, because it contains the bare minimum needed to run ds games, would it be possible to replace it with actual ds dumps?

Well I figured you could problebly hardmod the Ntr chip. Just asking if it's theoretically possible

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Or it it called the twl chip?

It would be nice to modify it to be more like the GBA firmware, ie, which can somehow run games without having the actual cartridge inserted. That would avert all the massive work that will be needed to make TWLoader fully fuctional (if that's even possible)

True

You are dreaming, guys.

Well yeah, I know. But a lot of dreams have come true. I hope we can run DS games directly from 3ds system menu like DSiware, just like we can now with GBA games launcing directly from 3ds system menu (which I'm sure some people wouldn't have thought possible at one point)

if you mean remplacing a cheap bad game cartridge rom with like a Pokémon ROM, nah. that's not possible at all. you cannot modify NTR chip unless you modify the chip, like soldering the chip and someway to access to the chip and modify the ntr chip rom...

Ever since the ambassador 3DS's were distributed we knew that we could launch GBA games directly from the 3DS system menu because the ambassador 3DS's had GBA games installed on them. That's not the case with DS games so it's pretty up in the air at this point

It's certainly possible to make mods of twloader that autoboot a specific DS file

Retail DS games can't work if directly installed (not that you'd be able to fit more than a couple)

What do they go on, 1GB NAND? The DS games are only 16MB-64MB, you could fit quite more than a couple on there.
128MB on a 3DS, some more on a real DSi

But any access the game will try to slot-1 will fail (unless of course the same game is physically inserted)

Alright I dont think I explained myself real well. I was wondering if I could reflash the ntr nand chip (via hardmod) with the original DS firmware. the full thing (may actually need some modification). Would this help with twloader compatibility?

There's no such chip afaik, it's emulated by twlfirm

Flashcards and physical games have access to the very same incomplete emulation

It's not the DS bootroms, parts of which are used as a standard library (and those parts are implemented)
