Homebrew Bypass update to use browserhax?

So I just got a 2ds from a friend recently and I want to homebrew it and I looked up guides on 3ds.guide. I saw the browserhax that goes with my 8.1, but to use online stuff I have to update my system. Is there a way to get around this? Are there other methods for this with my version if not? The hbl doesnt work with versions under 9.0.

At all? Not even with a game? Like Pokémon or Zelda oot? My friend has Zelda with the hacked save. Could I use that to get it for myself or custom firmware installed?

No, but afaik you can install b9s directly via a hacked save in 8.1 because this version has an ARM9 exploit..
idk how tho, sry..

To install b9s on 8.1 with browserhax, you don't reboot into hbl. You can just do what the guide™ tells you to do.
