Mad Catz files for bankruptcy

If you have ever purchased a third party accessory for your console, the name Mad Catz might be familiar to you. The company known for their cheap memory cards, off-brand controllers, and other peripherals has just filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy. Mad Catz and its subsidiaries will be liquidating their assets, as well, and the officers and directors of the company have all stepped down as of March 30, 2017. Founded in 1989, Mad Catz has acquired brands like GameShark, Tritton, and Saitek. The cause their demise is thought to be due to the poor sales of Harmonix's Rock Band 4, which Mad Catz was in charge of, taking financial responsibility for marketing and lacking sales of peripheral hardware.

I remember Mad Catz accessories from the 6th gen and back then they made really good controllers to the point of being just as good as the originals, if not even better. This is disappointing news but to be honest, I thought Mad Catz didn't exist anymore.

Aww i'm gonna miss em! Back during the ol GameCube days, my family had GameStop, Official, and MadCatz branded memory cards. Let me tell you, that MadCatz card was the only one that never got corrupted. I was convinced it was a good brand at the time.

Well. That was during a time I didn't explore internet forums much. Haha

This begs the question, what will happen to Saitek? They were going to release a Star Citizen HOTAS.

For all their bad reputation, their stuff wasn't really that bad compared to the real shit slingers like Interact. And at least they could make a 360 controller with a d-pad that worked right, unlike Microsoft.

And not a single damn was given :creep: Yes, it sucks that people lose their job, but let's be honest, their products sucked ass
Tritton headsets, Rat4-5-6-7-8, Strike's keyboards and TE fightsticks suck asses ?
Please update yourself, they're top notch premium peripherials wtf...

I won't miss them in the slightest, I've bought a Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R controller for my Android phone and it was complete shit.
It cost me 50€ and there was a lot of connectivity issues with several phones I've tried, not to mention the cheap plastic, shit D-Pad and shit everything to be more specific.
Also, it was pretty heavy and had no rumble features, when I disassembled the controller there were weights where the rumble motors should be, now I know where the 50 bucks went.

They dug their own grave.

Well, 2017 is shaping up to be worse than 2016. Trump becomes president, Club Penguin shuts it's doors, and now Mad Catz, who I purchased LOADS of GameCube accessories from that still work to this day, files for bankruptcy. Well, there goes the cheap Mad Catz Joy-Con controllers, Joy-Con grip, and Nintendo Switch Pro controller.

I had this Mad Catz GameCube controller that would short out and shut the system off if it was plugged in with any other controller. Quality

Quick! someone make a "Remembering Madcatz" Thread and get all your stuff and take pics, I got my ps2 and ps1 Gameshark, and my gba gameshark... and street figher V ps4 controller. :ninja:

Cheat devices pretty much ended with the nds.
Did any get released for the ps3, xbox360 or 3ds other than save data hacks?

Their third party controllers for consoles do (esp Gamecube controllers), and they took over Action Replay (or was it Gameshark) cheat devices and ruined it. Their other products I haven't used, so don't give me that.

With the use of hacks becoming more priority and encryption was more secure, cheat devices were limited to just save data editing. I have a hyperkin Game genie for ps3. Is simply save data editor, like, power saves for 3DS and other such things. Is not easy to just release a cheat device for systems anymore like we used to have. :(

While least game save edits are useful, it can only do so much compared to actual cheat devices that are actual ram mods to get stuff, now not having infinite ammo at all times is reduced to repeaditly setting ammo to max capacity every time you want more ammo. Most of the reason why console hacks are trying to be relevant i guess.

Logitech bought Saitek last September.

Anyways, I thought the mark of Mad Catz's downfall is probably when online gaming is starting to pick up which means there's no need for two or three extra controllers beyond the official first party one. Competition from chinese counterfeiters didn't help when people are probably more likely to buy a cheap flimsy knockoff rather than a controller with unnecessary bells and whistles.

Also, the poor sales of Guitar Hero Live didn't help.

Yeah I thought something might have popped up for the ps3, irc their was talk on psx-scence about usb dongles
running unsigned code and firmware hacks based on a sony sdk usb stick that got leaked, but then nothing got released.

Actually, I have used their gamecube controllers for years (about 8 to be exact). I loved them way more than the default gc controllers. My mad catz controls just started having issues a few months ago, and I'll definitely be buying more of them over normal gc controllers.
