Ok I accept we have Mario Odyssey coming out soon but what about the standard side scrolling Mario game that normally comes out with Nintendo consoles......

Nintendo seem to have changed their system.

It definitely feels like they're trying to go "GameCube 2.0" with this system, based on their marketing and title lineup

(But obviously actually make it a success this time)

Maybe they will after this game is release. Be patient. ;) Nintendo Switch just come out. They know that fan like you and me love 2D. They will.

Plus, if they're smart, they'll just release a Mario Maker with a full map editor and story mode. That way they get to make a full 2D Mario game with minimal effort, but also have the advantage of letting the community make literal full games for them after they release it

I so loved those N64 and Gamecube side scrolling Mario titles. And I so often forget that New Super Mario Bros. Wii was a launch title.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii was released in 2009, and the Wii was released in 2006, so it wasn't exactly a launch title.

I'm not sure where I heard it, so I can't provide a source, but it's been rumored that Nintendo was going to drop the New series of games. They were good at first, but they got to be a little much starting with New Super Mario Bros. 2.

I'd love another 4 player couch co-op 3D game like Super Mario 3d world. Also would enjoy another 2d platformer NSMB-switch.

Nintendo should have released a "New Super Mario Bros. Switch Edition" at launch because even though it's rehashed lazy crap, it would hold on to gamers who want to play Mario.
