Hi, I made a booboo, turns out I was in the middle of downgrading my daughter's 2ds in order to install luma (I was pretty confident because I had already done it in my own n3ds) but I didn't realize the SD card was defective because it was brand new and I did not check if it worked propperly.

And at first it seemed fine, but while it was transferring 2.1 firmware an error ocurred, and had to reboot... when I powered it back on, the screens didn't (so I guess it is bricked), then I pulled out the sd and realized all data was corrupted, not a single file was readable nor could be written (including nand backup).

Anyways, I know I can always get a replacement mother board and repair it, but I'm quite curious about dumping the nand via hardmod and see if there's anything to recover or should it be a complete waste of time... has anyone gone through something similar? care to share their experience?

note: this was posted in the noob paradise thread but I think it passed unnoticed, and I didn't want to mess up the thread so I posted it here.

I'm sure you already know but for future reference; SD card being new doesn't mean anything at all. There's a good chance that it's fake - even if it's bought from a seeminly legit retailer like Amazon.

As far as I know, there's nothing you can do now without a NAND backup .. not even with a hardmod. Though @gamesquest1 or someone as knowledgeable would be able to give you a more detailed answer.

the card was legit, I just had bad luck, the retailer in my town apologized and gave me a refund and another one (I checked it propperly this time and it works fine).

yeah, thats kind of what I think too, but i just wanted to check with more experienced people than I such as yourself, and confirm or get an idea of what would I find. Or, you know, just skip that part and get a replacement

you can keep this one and hope safehax comes soon enough unless you are replacing under warranty.
?? Safehax was released a while ago and is already patched (I think you meant Sighax) and even if sighax comes out, it won't "magically revive his bricked 3DS", cause it will need to boot to the home menu so we can execute it.

sorry..my bad ..i meant sighax.

well, with sighax you can write to Nand with a hardmod. So cant he hardmod and then instal 9.2 or his nand backup.

He can already do it without sighax?
The point of hardmodding is to recover from bricked nands

there's no backup, the sd would show files in the PC but couldn't do anything with them, couldn't copy, write, or even format...

so, yeah, my curiosity was if the files from 2.1 were actually written to the nand, and if not maybe would I be able to recover somehow... I don't know... well it doesn't make much sense now that I write it out...

I think maybe with sighax we could make universal NAND backups? I have heard other people mention using it to fix bricked consoles, too.
But how do you want to apply them if the console is bricked?
Even that would've required Hardmod
