Currently i use loadiine and self host.
I read about Haxchi but am unsure exactly how to install it.
I then read about Wii u usb helper to obtain games.
I am confused about how i load the wii u and play games after installing this.
Hoping someone can please help a wii u noob.

to install haxchi, you need to buy one of the ds vc games from this list:
https://github.com/FIX94/haxchi/blob/master/installer/src/gameList.h#L14-L102
install it on sysnand, NOT usb. Then, download the latest haxchi from here:
https://github.com/FIX94/haxchi/releases
Be sure to download Haxchi, NOT CBHC. The standard version comes with haxchi name, icon and boot images, but you can customize everything as you like. i use homebrew launcher icons and homebrew channel bootsound, if you need it i can post a link.
You can edit the config file to open various homebrew apps when you press a button while opening haxchi, for more info read the official thread by fix94:

about wii u usb helper i don't know. sorry

For WiiU modding, this is the way to go currently (late January 2017):

0) ignore anybody mentioning rednand, mocha, loadiine, tickets, simple "brazilian" USB loading (although the latter is technically part of what you're gonna do);
1) update your Wii U to 5.5.1 asap (before 5.5.2 is out, not saying that's a given, but it is a possibility with the new Zelda)
2) buy a suitable (for haxchi) DS game from eShop asap (again, before 5.5.2 is out); don't be a cheapstake, it could mean wasting the chance of a lifetime to perma-hack the WiiU; choose the DS game you like the least among the suitable ones, as you won't be able to play it (probably "Brain Age" is a good bet)
3) install haxchi to test if everything works before installing automatic-haxchi (as stated by every automatic-haxchi guide)
4) install automatic-haxchi (called "CBHC")
5) install "homebrew channel" on Wii U
6) install "WUP Installer GX2 Version 1.1" on Wii U
7) install "Wii U USB helper" on pc, when asked for a source of keys insert the link to the first result when googling "wii u keys"
8) find games (like CoD) that aren't in "Wii U USB helper" elsewhere, they must be "USB ready"
9) use an SD card as boat to carry stuff from PC to WiiU, and on WiiU use "Wup Installer GX2 Version 1.1" to install stuff to USB HDD; install up to 300 games
10) just play with your wii U and never touch the "hack" part ever again (except for updating CBHC), as anything (not actually) could conflict with CBHC and lead to a brick; for the love of god don't try to delete or reinstall the DS game used for the hack or you will brick; for the love of everything that's pure and beautiful in this world, don't format your WiiU while CBHC is set up or you will royally brick
11) block updates with DNS (or disable networking altogether if you don't plan to play online)
12) don't bother with hacking vWii, just grab a real Wii on ebay and don't put your fragile WiiU in jeopardy, as even a vWii related crash followed by force restart could brick your WiiU
13) come back to gbatemp in 5 years when the dust will settle for more advanced stuff (WiiU native backup USB loaders with ISO fat32 support, WiiU native emulators, etc.) if you want to revamp your mod

this setup plays anything (sigpatch) from any region (region patch), so it's better than plain simple usb loading formerly known as "brazilian method"; it loads automatically when you start your WiiU and can be used completely offline (no need to visit a website), so it feels like a perma-hack

paste this guide to any noob confused by the crapton of outdated information, word salads and stuff meant for advanced tinkerers

Wii U modding is dead simple (or limited one could say) at the moment. This video is straightforward as it gets, just use up to date files (WARNING: could be outdated if you're reading this past January 2017):

Insert your downloaded game folders in sd://install
ex. sd://install/Super Mario Maker (DLC) (CFW ONLY)
Right, you must be in CFW to install CFW only games. Download Mocha CFW or Hold B while booting up Haxchi

Am i able to confirm that haxchi is region free meaning i can also install NTSC games on my pal wii u?
Also when you say hold b while booting up Haxchi does that change the firmware the wii u will run?
Sorry little confused but getting there.

Good summary as a guide. Only the come back in 5 years I would say come back in a year as next update for Mocha CFW could be fat32 hdd support as mentioned by the developer, which could be pretty soon. And also as some plugin for CBHC or Haxchi probably

It's region free! You can run Japanese, NTSC and PAL games (And many more?)
2. Nope. It just boots you into sigpatched sysNAND (Stock one but with sigpatches and region free) so no modifications and changes other than that.

Fact is, a noob today can easily install its favorite 292 WiiU games within a couple of days of "work" and never touch it again, except to install the few WiiU games that will come out from now on. Little reason for a self-proclaimed "noob" to revamp the whole setup just 1 year from now. It just works.

5 years from now (supposing one still cares about the WiiU) there could be sci-fi stuff (ISO loader that can launch wiiU/wii/ngc from FAT32 or NTFS hdd? region free gamepads? everything works on gamepad? completely brick-free coldboot? external next gen SSDs?) and one could consider revamping the whole setup.
Of course that doesn't apply to tinkerers and hobbyists that might wanna try new stuff as soon as it's out.

Now that I think about it WiiU scene got so easy so quick that "we're OK thanks" attitude could kill the scene. Thank god people are cheapstakes and don't wanna pay for the DS game.

On the other hand, people really into NGC/Wii/WiiU are here for the long run and we can expect the WiiU to be relevant at least for 10 years like its precedecessors.

First of all, excellent guide!

Second, I have a question. I already have an HDD with some stuff installed using wup, If I do the Haxchi and CBHC part, can I still use that HDD without having to delete the content?

In this video you are recommending to buy a game.online. do we need to create a account to buy? Because I haven't used Nintendo online services yet and am not sure if the buying option might be there in India. Sorry for a silly question. I am Lil excitedd here as this video is making me buy a wii u today !

What about the ones that already did hack vWii? Is there a way to set it back to stock?

I am having a problem installing some games. I have downloaded about 40 games so far using USB Helper and installed them using the hold B method while loading Haxchi and about 80% seem to install just fine and are playable. I have noticed that I mainly get problems with games that end in CFW ONLY but not all of them. A couple virtual console games installed just fine while the others just sit at 0% for about 5 seconds then it switches back to the installer screen. I have tried installing the games that didn't work to both usb and NAND but neither work. USB Helper verifys all the files and says they are ok and my sd card is only 2 days old and has been working just fine so I don't think either of those are the issue. Any advice on my issue would be greatly appreciated.

Try installing with WUP installer GX

I will give that a try but you may have to point me in the right direction. Just so you know what was done I hacked my Wii U by using brain age and going to the loadiine.ovh website and doing the exploit to install the Haxchi installer. When I exit Haxchi I get directed to the homebrew screen bud don't have WUP installer GX.
  • Question 1 - Will WUP installer GX work fine with the way I hacked my wii or do I need to do something else before using it?
  • Question 2 - Can you point me to an article or tell me how to obtain and install WUP installer GX?
THANK YOU!

Install WUP Installer GX2 as a channel using regular HBL WUP installer. Then you'll have a channel for WUP installer GX2.

You'll have to be in HaxChi CFW to run it so make sure your CBHC or HaxChi is set up to autoboot to system menu.

Just Google WUP installer GX2 and you can get it from dimok's github

The only thing I am unsure of is if my Haxchi is set up to autoboot to system menu. I have to click Haxchi before loading any game so I'm guessing it isnt set to autoboot. I found a tutorial for cold booting Haxchi is this what I should follow to make the system autoboot? https://gbatemp.net/threads/haxchi-coldboot-autobooting-haxchi-installer.452208/
