Hi, sorry if this is extremely nooby but I'm just a little paranoid.

So I'm currently on 11.2 with Luma and was wondering can I update any time I want? Like I know you can update through system settings and it will be fine, but can I update like right when a new update for my system comes out? Do I have to wait for people to confirm the new update is working with A9LH or do I just go ahead and do it and will be fine?

Also, to update my A9LH I have to go to the Luma Updater on my 3ds and press Normal for a stable version right? Or do I have to goto my computer and download a new version then put it in my SD card?

Thanks.

Luma3DS can be updated any time and you should also be able to update your OFW without hassle. Updating your CFW comes with no risks.
You do not update A9LH with Luma updater, follow this guide to updating A9LH

You can update right after a new update comes if you have a9lh.
Luma Updater only updates Luma3DS. You can either use the updater or http://astronautlevel2.github.io/Luma3DS/ for nightlies.
For A9LH updating refer to the post above.(Although updates for it will come rarely)
Oh okay, thank you so much.
One question, what are nightlies?

Future 3DS updates are likely to continue working with Luma3DS. You can update to future 3DS versions without worrying about it. Personally, I check GBATemp whenever a new update is released, just in case.

In the unlikely event that a future 3DS update is incompatible with Luma3DS and you do update, it's not a big deal. Luma3DS makes it so your A9LH installation cannot be overwritten, so all you have to do is restore a NAND backup from before the update (or wait until Luma3DS is updated to become compatible with the new 3DS version).

To answer your question about updating Luma3DS, you can just use Luma Updater as you described. There is no need to use your computer to do Luma updates.

holly crap thank you so much. But according to FTRBND, I will rarely have to do this since A9LH doesn't update that much?

Nightlies are builds that contain the latest changes/fixes/features. Sometimes not stable.
The last A9LH update was on the 3rd of November so you're good.

Nightly are "unstable" or "experimental" builds basically they are the testing builds of the CFW. Normally with limited testing, but nothing system breaking.
A9LH rarely updates, but it's still extremely easy to update when it does.

Oh ok, so nightlites are like the hourly thing in Lumaupdater? And I hope I am, If you can't tell, I'm new to 3ds hacking and I was shaking just installing A9LH.

oh ok.. I have to remember so many terms like sysnand, emunand, and other stuff.. all of this is overwhelming
sysNAND is the default system NAND
emuNAND is a clone NAND on the SD card
If you need any help, we as a community can always help.

yes but I have lost my .bin backups after downgrading to a lower version than I currently have and I would not like to consider it "bricked" (Cannot update games or via wi-fi). I still have the ability to create an emunand with a correctly formatted sd card, restore/backup sysnand, and dump carts.

Well I think you would have to make a new thread and ask other people for that.. I'm too stupid for this

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
