Has anyone ever made a homebrew application to dim the 3ds backlit farther down then what nintendo allows? At night the game is still to bright.

Im one of those also who has their things on the lowest setting with powersave mode on xD There is a application, well feature with NTR to dim the backlight. I'm not sure on a overall HB app, though. For the specific thing, would be nice though

You can take someone's work for it and result in a brick, or, just not do it at all :P

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I would resort to a few layers black electrical tape over the LED long before risking a permanent brick just because a one guy says it's safe.

I read recently only one known person has ever recovered from an MCU brick.

I've used it multiple times and it seems pretty safe to me. CTGP-7 also has a feature that is able to control the notification LEDs and no problems have been reported due to that. I remember there being a slightly larger thread about controlling of the LED lights and most people were posting that the chance of bricking although existent was fairly low.
