I've had two 3ds XLs in the past, both of them ended with a cracked right hinge so I moved to the 2ds.

I'm getting the Pokemon SM N3DS to play Pokemon Sun. i'm worried the right hinge will break again. How do I prevent it from cracking?

My current plan is to barely use it.

That not a really good plan, if you're going to use it barely, then it's better for you not to buy it at all.
But seriously, what are you doing with those two 3DSes you have? The hinge won't cracked easily.
My 3DS ever fell once about 1 meter high, port side first. No crack at all.

I dropped it a one or two times for the first one, I saw a crack, as for the second one, it came with a small crack that got worse.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

never open and/or close, so its a glorified 2ds
If I do that I won't be able to carry it with me.

Why didn't you return the second one? They should accept it.

Actually i was about to suggest that, but i thought that would be a dumb suggestion.
I guess with the 3ds xls there is more force on the hinge since its bigger, so don't buy an XL
I don't have a regular 3DS, but i don't think so, mine has been 8 months. Fell once, but it's not cracked at all. Maybe some have different build quality.

I've already ordered it.

I've read on here that others have had issues with the right hinge cracking, I thought it was only me that had that issue.

The crack started as a small crack but was getting bigger the more I closed my 3ds. I was thinking about sending it to Nintendo but I found out hat a cracked hinge isn't covered. My 3dses eventually had the hinges break off completely.

I have a N3DS XL and the hinge of the top screen is kinda, unstable? Moves side to side quite easily not stiff like my O3DS XLs. Can anyone confirm this ouo
Mine does, although only half millimeter. Is this what you're talking about?
And you're not talking about the hinge being wobbly, right?

The original 3DS XL has abysmal build quality comparable to the DS lite, and the hinge on the shell is merely millimeters thick. You will not experience this issue on new 3DS consoles.

Even the old 3DS standard is more durable, specifically 3DS XL is the least durable device in both the DS and 3DS family.
