The most recent nightlies are working as .CIA installs now, which is great.

I did a bit of testing with Picodrive and GenesisPlus, and think I found a stability issue.
If you boot a Sega CD title such as Sonic CD in Picodrive and press the Home button, the system will crash with an "Error has occurred" black screen of death. (As opposed to the software closing to home menu and rebooting).
This won't happen if you quit the core using the retroarch frontend, or when using the GenesisPlus core.

Edit: Tested the FCEUmm core as .CIA install, attempting to boot any NES rom causes an error which closes the software and reboots the system.
Edit: Same deal with Nestopia core. The only core I can get to boot stuff is QuickNES. Incidentally, QuickNES cannot run Rockman 4 Minus Infinity.

This is all on my N3DSXL running A9LH/Luma3DS 3.6.1/3DS firmware 11.1 E

Edit: A little further testing.
QuickNES and Picodrive cores appear to have no screen tearing at all which is wonderful.
GenesisPlus still has some nasty screen tear prominent on the left vertical third of the screen.
I've noticed that when putting the 3DS into sleep mode when running the Picodrive core there is a small chance the audio will get a little crackly. Reloading the ROM will alleviate this.
The Screenshot function on the retroarch menu does not work on any of the cores I've tried. This includes after setting the screenshots directory in config.

On N3DS, A9LH, Cakes.Tested PCSX Rearmed and Dosbox

Seems to run Castlevania SotN alright. Performance is about equal to previous stable builds with an FPS around 23 at the main menu.

This version doesn't seem to be able to load savestates from previous builds. Are the directories different from 1.3.3?

DosBox forces a hard reset upon loading .exe files.

new builds up with a fix for the cia issue.

for the XMB menu, you need to get the assets from here : https://github.com/libretro/retroarch-assets/archive/master.zip

extract the archive to your assets directory on your SD (which can be set in settings --> directory --> assets). and then change the menu driver to "xmb" (settings --> drivers --> menu driver) and relaunch retroarch.

this is still experimental, so expect slow performance and high loading times.

if anything goes wrong, edit your retroarch.cfg, find the menu_driver="xmb" setting, and change it back to menu_driver="rgui".
What folder should this zip be in again?
Should I create SD:/settings/directory/assets?
Or where exactly?

I want to try out the XBM menu for 3DS and give feedback on whatever it is that I might bump into for it.

Thank you, will try it out. :)

Okay first test so far with XBM menu using CIA 09-30 build with the asset folder you provided.:
It does load, but the highlitghted section tends to be one item above from the viewable section, which makes entering options and or loading a game difficult.

gpsp still has some tearing on the top of the screen with SMA4. It crashed after 5 seconds of trying a second loaded game.
GenPlusGX has some slowdown in all the games I tested, and has a reduced tearing but still noticeable on the left side of the screen.

I'll see what else I can gather.

Which nightly do we need to be on for XMB support? The 2016-10-01 builds currently up on the buildbot server look like a failed build (no binaries included, 12KB download), but dropping down to the 2016-09-30 build and setting XMB as menu driver seems not to work for me. RetroArch starts up on a blank blue screen with some garbage at the top of the screen. I can manipulate that garbage with the d-pad, but it's not usable at all. What am I missing?

EDIT: Never mind, after deleting my old, pre-update retroarch.cfg and restarting, it seems to be working.

How do I alter the speed of fastforward? Specifically, I'm using gpSP. PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!

Have you tried to go to

1. settings
2. input
3. input hotkey binds
4. fast forward toogle

set a Button for it and it should make the game go faster when you press it

Thanks for the reply but fastforward barely increases the speed (maybe 1.5 times faster?), how do I fastforward at a faster rate?

no problem umm.... not sure if this will work but have you tried

1. settings
2. frame throttle - set to maximum run speed to 10.0x

if that doesn't work .... I am not sure what else you can do unfortunately sorry

Indeed, I can feel and see that in Genesis+gx, tearing is still here on the left. Way less than before but it's still here.
My test game is always Ecco - The tide of time. Just watch the demo when the dolphin jump out of water.

Another issue with genesis+gx is the fact that when you walk (Aladdin), it seems the background is displaying frame by frame or soemething. I can't explain it better, but it isn't fluid.

Good luck, men! It's good to see you back!

Running the 3dsx builds, is anybody else on New 3DS noticing that they seem to be running at original 3DS speed? I'm getting <50% speed in CPS-1 games, XMB itself is only managing 50FPS or so. It's definitely reminiscent of previous times the version check has broken and the emulators have run as they would on O3DS.

EDIT: Indeed, if I use NTR to change the CPU clock speed to N3DS, the emulators run as they should. Seems something's up with the detection.

Using a fresh install of the October 1st nightly, CIA versions on N3DS:

-It seems that none of the SNES9x cores can find my savegames anymore, even though they're all still in retroarch/cores/savefiles. What happened?
-gPSP finally saved my button remap! Hooray! But, I still experienced a dynarec crash when testing with Metal Slug Advance (this game was particularly crashy on 1.3.3.) :(
-The new XMB menu looks pretty fancy, but still has a few kinks to be smoothed out. Most notably, there is a lot of overlapping text in the settings, particularly in the video and button mapping settings. When you're selecting a ROM, it seems that the current directory that you're browsing, listed at the top of the screen, will get partially cut off after you scroll down a bit.

@coinblock The FB Alpha and Snes9x cores have all changed names. If you've been using the setting that sorts your saves into directories on an older RetroArch build with the previous names, you'll need to rename those folders. I'm operating from memory on these, so my apologies for any that aren't accurate, but the changes should be roughly as follows:

FB Alpha --> FB Alpha 2012
FBA Cores CPS1 --> FB Alpha 2012 CPS1
FBA Cores CPS2 --> FB Alpha 2012 CPS2
FBA Cores Neo --> FB Alpha 2012 NeoGeo

PocketSNES --> Snes9x 2002
CatSFC(Snes9x) --> Snes9x 2005
CatSFC Plus(Snes9x) --> Snes9x 2005 Plus
Snes9x Next --> Snes9x 2010

Alternatively/additionally, it may just be that you were using the sorting before and now aren't, or you weren't using it before and now are. You should check the save settings in RetroArch to be sure it matches your directory structure.
