You will need a second hacked 3ds tho.

Only other option would be a hardmod, but only if you have a backup of your NAND

If you bought it from a store, you could update it, take it back and ask to replace it (Here in the US at GameStop they charge $25 to swap it out for another one). If they're as lenient as they are here, you could probably ask to check the FW on it as well.
