Why do people use old android phones with stagefright exploit unfixed?

because they want their phone to get cancer, or the manufacturer is lazy, and the user doesnt want custom roms

Because

1. I can't afford another one
2. I don't want to buy another phone, while the current ones are perfectly working
3. I don't like newer Android versions I'm stuck in the Gingerbread stone age
4. as @mgrev said, the manufacrurer is lazy
5. the phone can't handle newer versions because of hardware limitations

Oh it works now, I changed my password, now it logs in just fine

Are you joking? The 5X is the latest Nexus. Of course it isn't cheap. You can get a refurbished Nexus 5 for $169 on Amazon or ebay.

in norway the 5x is 400$, and the iphone 6s is 900$. yet the 5x has better everything
