I downgraded a N3DS to 9.2 and installed ReiNAND. ReiNAND doesn't have the save files and badges and whatnot. When I use the Mii Plaza StreetPass, it says I need to 'redownload the update data'. I am not sure what went wrong.

I backed up the SysNAND with EmuNAND9 and I have all the files from the SD card before the downgrade. What do I need to do get all those files back?

My girlfriend is going to kill me if she finds out I lost her Yokai Watch and Badge Arcade data. Save me, guys!

You need the sd card with the files that was in the system before the downgrade. If the card has been corrupted, simply copy your backup to a freshly formatted card. For Streetpass plaza, the hits are stored on the system, but all puzzles after the first batch and all plaza game data is stored on the sd. I messed up my data when I downgraded because there was emunand on the sd card and my Nintendo3DS folder got encrypted and impossible to transfer to PC. Thanks goodness for backups.

I used the same SD card for the downgrade but I have both the System NAND backup and the files. I copied the files over again but it didn't restore anything, at least software wise. I am currently redownloading Yokai Watch from the eShop and hoping the save is just lost somewhere.

If I use EmuNAND9 and restore the NAND backup, will that get me back to where I was?

If you restore the NAND, the games will be on the system, but the saves will be on the sd card. I would try that. If you formatted the nand at any time then you might be in trouble because the nands are encrypted to the console. You'll get back the streetpass hits, but that's it. Emunands are also encrypted and you can't restore an extracted emunand to a reformatted emunand. I didn't realise that before, just assumed restoring would overwrite everything. What I ended up doing was reflashing the original nand, extracting the saves on the sd ( which could still be read by the console) using savedatafiler and svdt (for Rumble and Shuffle) and then starting a new Nintendo3DS folder on a clean sd card, downloading the games from the eshop (all legit so no problems there) and then injecting the saves. That was to overcome my screwy emunand encryption problem. I just wanted to back up my legit console, but the files would not transfer to pc no matter what I did - should have known that using an old sd would be an issue.

Currently still downloading Yokai Watch, but I noticed something strange.

I have three different folders in my Nintendo 3DS folder on the sd card. After unlinking the NANDs, shouldn't I only have two? What's this third one? Odd.

Edit:

Goddammit. No save. I may die tonight. Let's try the NAND backup and see if it populates those saves.

The folders have merged. That happened with me too. And try as I might, I could not get the folders to transfer to PC. What you have is the secondary nand creating its encryted folder inside the original folder. I do not advise copying it to pc unless you already have a backup of the files on the pc. That was when I got error messages that ....file was no longer present on the sd card. Check first whether you have access to the saves on the console. If you do, then you might be okay to keep using that sd card. Then you could try the original backup of the sd card. If that works then great! If not, I'd still extract the saves and re-inject on a fresh card just to minimise any future issues. Depends how easy it is to extract saves for certain games though. Pullblox, for example, would not re-inject all the data, just the last level section. I think also you have to download all the updates and passes/dlc for each game before injecting saves and start up the games so that data is created and there's a place to inject to. Shuffle has to be played up to the level where you get the check in tab (10, I think).

I think if you have formatted the nand in any way, then the saves will have the original encryption keys and the nand a new set; hence why they do not work. I had done a system transfer so my original nand was not touched when I set up the new console so I had the ability to extract saves by reflashing. You could try reflashing the nand, but it will not restore the games because the encyrption on the console is wrong/new now.

The only other option is to redownload all of the games and get save files for those completed off the web. Not quite the same, but at least progress will be there. For games in progress, it might just have to be starting again and a big grovelling apology, I'm afraid. With yokai Watch, I guess you're in the US so not sure my saves can help as they are EU. Not too sure about save encryption either.

Try reflashing the nand first. It may just work.

I can't reflash the NAND to the SysNAND, not that I can see. I am reflashing the NAND to the EmuNand after formatting the card. Hopefully that will get it.

The only things I want to save for sure are the Yokai Watch and Badge Arcade save files.

Badge arcade will simply set itself up again from information on the server linked to your NNID. No problems there. For Yokai watch, I really don't know. If you have a friend with the game and a powersaves device, it could be backed up on pc, transferred with Nintendo's save data tool and then reflashed from the powersaves image on pc. Or you buy the cart, use powersaves to get the yokai you want, transfer the data and then sell the cart. It's possible someone on that iso site will send you a save file. That's a bit more complicated, but worth a shot.

Best of luck!

Haha, the problem is that if I don't get HER save, she will not be happy. Oh well, I will start the game with her and make it a bonding thing or something. Good to hear about the Badge arcade.

Thanks for all the help!

EDIT:

Oh wow, I fixed it! I restored the NAND to EmuNAND and only copied over one of the folders that was in 'Nintendo 3DS'. One was 8GB, the other was 1GB. I deleted the 1GB folder and I am good to go! I won't be dying tonight!
