Hacking Upgrade 6.x to 9.2 sysNAND

Hello,
I've found multiple things indicating how but they all don't see reliable to follow.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

I have a 6.x sysNAND and want to go to 9.2 for themehax.

I just did it on my 2DS using the package on that ISO site (9.0.0 without MSET, AGB_FIRM and TWL_FIRM update).

How to Update your 3DS/2DS to 9.0 or 9.2

If you want to boot rxTools as soon as you turn on your 3DS, then you need to set-up Menuhax; and to use Menuhax, you need to be on 9.0 - 9.2 firmware.
Warning: This can brick your 3DS if done incorrectly! Be sure that you follow the instructions carefully!

Requirements:

• FBI installed in sysnand (Step 4a if you don't have Gateway or Ninjhax) OR any other cia installer on Sysnand
• A rxTools 3.0 nightly (preferably the one linked in Step 2)
  • Also works on rxTools 2.5.2 (for those that can't launch 3.0)

Let's get started.

1. Click HERE
2. Click the CIA Format DLC's, Themes & Updates [Archive] result
3. Click View Full Version : CIA Format DLC's, Themes & Updates at the top of the page
4. Find the thread titled [MEGA] [CIA/BIN] MSET 4.X & 6.X backups, Browser backups, Update packs (All Regions)
   
5. Scroll down to the section titled Updates
6. Download either the 9.2 modified update pack for your region, or a 9.0 or 9.2 Full Update Pack for you region
7. Once downloaded, open the archive and find the "updates" folder; place it on your SD card. There should be many cia files in that folder.
   • Example: SD:/updates/0004013000008003.cia
8. Download Sysupdater
9. Open the archive and put sysUpdater.cia on your SD card
10. Insert your SD card in your 3DS
11. Hold L while launching rxTools to get into the rxTools menu
12. Press DPAD RIGHT until you highlight ADVANCED OPTIONS, then press A
13. Go down to DEVMODE and press A
14. After a few seconds, you should now be in sysnand; firmware spoofing is disabled but cias can still be launched in this mode.
15. Launch FBI
16. Install sysUpdater.cia (Destination: SD)
17. Once installed, press HOME to see sysUpdater wrapped as a gift; unwrap it.
18. Launch sysUpdater
19. sysUpdater will ask you if you are sure you want to go ahead with the update; choose to accept it.
    • It will also tell you that you shouldn't be in Gateway mode, or have firmware spoofing. Do not worry about this, DEVMODE has no firmware spoofing, so sysUpdater will work as intended. Just be absolutely sure you are in DEVMODE (line 13), not RXMODE SYSNAND!
20. Wait for sysUpdater to finish. When it is done, your 3DS will reboot into 9.0 or 9.2 firmware! You can now follow the steps to use Menuhax if you'd like.

I used this to update safely. Just be sure to be in DevMode to prevent brick!

AFAIK you need to run sysupdater in devmode which is avilable in rxtools 2.5 and 2.5.2. Also you need to download all applets via 3DNUS for proper region and make from them one CIA for sysupdater.
Mahe sure you have working NAND copy in case sth will go wrong.

It is working on rxTools 3.0. Just be sure to use the 9-28 version.

this worked great on 1 3ds...on the other one, for some strange reason it will not inject FBI!

and i see the reason...there are 2 versions install on my sysnand for health and safety app, 1026 and 2051 but rxtools will only do 2051, system launches 1026...wtf!

FBI injection can be a real pain. I suggest re-updating to 9.2 again to get a clean sysnand again, then try to inject the 2051 app/tmd via rxtools. Oh, and make sure you unlink your nands before you inject FBI, or you'll have to re-inject it after you format (I think?)

yeah i got lucky - this 3ds was previously on 9.2, so was easy after i gave up on injection lol

the first one i did was 6.xx so it was a necessity.

i always do it this way on fresh 3ds'
my raw 3ds,
nand backup
setup emunand (you can set emunand first, then nand backup so you save 1 round of 3ds to pc copy files)
on that iso site, get the full pack 9.2 of your region and your 3ds (2ds 9.2, o3ds 9.2 n3ds 9.2 etc etc)
copy updates folder to your sd
setup rxtools, (either by gw mset via dg first or spider)
inject fbi on emunand and sysnand
run rxtools in devmode
launch h&s app
install sysupdater
start update
you're now on the tasty 9.2 fw
optional:
get starter pack for homebrew channel
boot hc via spider ninj or whatever.
install themehax
rename boot_hb.3dsx
get ctrbootmgr and copy files to sd

config ctrbootmgr

bam, 3ds with emunand, @9.2 coldboot via themehax

You wouldn't need to, system format can't magically restore the original H&S app unless it re-downloaded every system app and re-installed them every time you did a system format.

Wait, are you sure? I recall doing this one time while hacking a friend's system and the app completely disappeared from sysnand. During another session we managed to run a cfw and suddenly saw the app again. Isn't there some kind of signature checking or ID change that happens because of the format which would change the location of the Nintendo 3DS folders? (Or rather, is FBI run from that folder?)

Oh, so it really was on NAND then. So, is the only way to recover from that either a flashcart or NAND restore?
