I have a WiiU on v5.3.2:

(1) If I spoof to v5.5.0, and later I actually want to update my console, how will that affect the update process?
(2) Other than using eShop and bypassing the super-annoying online services pop-ups, what does spoofing buy me?
(3) I've read conflicting threads whether spoofing is permanent, or not. Is it?

Thanks. I was quite active in the Wii softmod era, but my WiiU is currently clean/unmodded, and I'm still unsure if it's even necessary, until an IOSU exploit has been released.

1. Know one really knows about this until the next wiiu update rolls out and it could either be spoofed again or Nintendo could even very easily implement something in the next update to stop spoofing firmware from happening and then you would either have to stop at spoofed FW5.5.0 or have to update fully because its permanent but hopefully the IOSU exploit will be out so there will be an emunand based firmware so no worries. Remember its only like a half con update to FW5.5.0, the wiiu still thinks it needs updating so DNS blocks need putting in place to stop this from happening else it will update fully without your knowledge!

2. E-shop is just the same spoofed or being on FW5.5.0 fully, you just have to run NNU-Patcher to access e-shop. It gives you access to all online features like for MK8 or Super Smash bros etc..

3. Yes spoofing is permanent at the moment, once you update to FW5.5.0 via wup-installer there is no going back!

4. After all that worry, yes I went ahead and did it asap if you wanted to know cause MK8 without no online play, is rather pants tbh I think so that was my reason for doing it! :D

I hope this helps you out :)

Thanks GQ, yes I just slipped in a quick change then lol ;) Its permanent for now though.
yeah people seem to have heart palpitations over the word permanent though as if is "your WiiU will be locked in its current state permanently , forever, zero chance of escape, forever and ever and ever and ever , no hope whatsoever of any change in circumstances at all"

while you cant go backwards atm, people have already found themselves updated even after spoofing, so its not like it makes the system read only and completely impenetrable, if for some reason you want/need to update you can

Yes it will probably worry others now I have said that. I probably should of used another word instead of "permanent", maybe "semi-permanent" or "sort off permanent"! I can see panic stations now!

Even with NNU-patcher to access the eshop is it not possible to download/install DLC with e-shop copies of games? My plan was the get a new console and redownload all my games but if I can't download DLC it might not be worth it.

When you install DLC, it doesn't tie itself to physical or digital copies of the game. It works for both physical and digital, whichever you have. Even if you had both physical and digital, it would work for both.

But yep you can buy/download DLC on spoofed firmware. Including game updates, and even full games from eshop.

3) not "permanent" as much as "currently irreversible", this is all subject to change, "permanent" implies otherwise

Thanks. I think I might hold off until either an IOSU exploit is released, or I move to a new console. My concern is that the WiiU scene will die off worse than it already has, and my console will be "stuck" spoofed, without a way to use it feasibly.

Yeah I know I was only having a bit of fun with you as well, rolling it on and all that :)

Actually tbh m8 with you, you should enjoy your wiiu on FW5.3.2 there few and far between these days I would spoof it if you have say MK8 or SSB on disc for sure, enjoy that online banter & fun and don't miss out!. It really has just about everything going for it, there isn't really much more IOSU access can bring to the table apart from the obvious, like proper back ups and online play alongside etc.. but what we have going for 5.3.2 firmware wiiu's at this time is pretty god damn amazing I think! the crews involved in all the projects so far in my eyes are little stars in themselves!!! :)
