Hm...

So is it impossible to replace the east/west ocean with the east/west wall without it crashing? Or is it just the railroad that crashes it?

Hihi, sorry for the double post

I'm trying to hex edit AC:NL but nothing is actually changing. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, because even simple changes like grass won't work.

Then you're not applying changes. Edit. Save file. Inject save. Works fine here.

It's more so that nothing is really appearing. For example, when I go to any of the town acre addresses, grass address, etc. it's almost always 00. I change it to anything listed, and nothing actually happens. I'm on the correct block 'n stuff, so iunno where everything is.

You're editing the ram dump, not the garden.dat, right? The offsets on the spreadsheet (a lot are wrong) are all for the ram dump iirc

Wow, I'm stupid.

Yeah, I was editing garden.dat rather than the ram dump. Guess I'm out of luck, as my 3DS isn't the proper version for ram dumping.

Any workarounds for this, or is it impossible to edit the acres using garden.dat? How do programs like NLSE edit the acres from garden.dat?

Mine has only a south beach, walls on left and right.
Oh...

So it's possible, but I can't do it. That's... really disappointing.

You can also just replace the acre models if this is for your romhack. Im in class atm but i can help you find them later if u need help

A ram dump is just the first 0x80 bytes removed from the garden.dat file. You can export one from the ACNL desktop editor if you don't know how to cut it yourself.

This wouldn't work, as it'd have improper collisions and wouldn't appear properly in un-modded games.

Oh, really? I'll go try this, thank you!

Close! I'm trying to get a town that has the walls on the east and west, with only a south facing beach. Obviously, it'd need things like two slopes, but that's fine.

Alright, there's one final problem. This one is very minor, and I don't know if it's possible to fix, but I'm just gonna ask.

In the acres where the beach/ocean used to be, it will start playing the sound effect of waves crashing. This happens the entire time you're in this acre, too, so it isn't just some outside boundaries thing. I'm not sure if these sound effects are applied "per acre" or the town generates some L-type shape to cover the beach acres depending on where it is to start with. Anybody know anything about this? It's pretty minor, so if it can't be fixed, it's fine, but it doesn't hurt to ask~

I don't have the answer but I'm curious whether there are other quirks. Are you able to place work projects or homes on the areas where water would have been?

I haven't done any acre editing or romhacking but I'm guessing that the save file stores the beach location somewhere else in the save file. There are only 2 sides the beach can spawn on, so it wouldn't be crazy of the game did a simple check to see where to place the beach sounds. But the save file is so big, it won't be easy to find, if it even exists. But I think if you try to get rid of the sound you'd crash the game.

The odd thing is that at the same time, the game doesn't lower the music's volume. When you step on the actual beach itself, the volume will lower to make the crashing waves easier to hear. However, when you're on the edited acres, the volume doesn't lower while it still plays the wave sound effect.

Hi, so i used this website to hack my ACNL http://usuaris.tinet.cat/mark/acnl_editor/
I saw a button there saying "Unlock all PWPs" i didn't really know what it was so i clicked on it. Apparently PWP stands for Public Work Projects and now i unlocked them all but i never wanted to do that :(
I wanna unlock them in a fair way!! So is there a way to lock them again?? Pls say yes :(
