CHMM2 v2.1.2 (Hotfix) <-- Crash on exit

Love this launcher! Been following since around beta 73. The customization is great and it does everything I need it to. I don't really care about the crash on exit really since the shortcut works. I hope we can figure out what the problem is just so we can know, even if it can't be fixed. Hopefully you're not stressing too much. You've got a fantastic launcher here!
 
Hey pals, I am also working hard to fix these crashes right now! Thanks for the logs so far, I kind of want to investigate the issue too.

@mashers, I have some info for you (yay!). When I quit out of CHMM2, it gets stuck exactly on the line with "CSND_SetPlayState(0x8, 0);", a line of code in method "void audio_stop(void)" of file "sound.c" during the boot process. I am looking at the issue right now. Will be back with more info soon!

BAM! FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!! However, that does not mean a fix just yet... :sad:

Error d8e06406 is returned when starting the CSND service after quitting out of CHMM2. I've dealt with this type of error many times before (good thing I joined here with my first thread being IR resource thread. Phew!). It's an error that denies a service. Here is the error d8e06406 decoded:

Module: 25 SRV
Level: 27 Permanent
Summary: 7 Invalid argument
Description: 6 Access denied. This error is returned when you request a service that you don't have access to. (srv)

I am wondering if @Rinnegatamante forgot to close the csound service (please don't kill me, that's just what I discovered...) when CHMM2 is quit. Or, (more likely) ctrulib is just super duper broken right now (that's something I know @Rinnegatamante will agree on :rofl2:). That's currently all I can think of as to why the service is denied. Give me a little bit more time and I'll see if I can make a workaround.

Maybe there's a way we can get him back on this stuff?

Is it the same error with xml titles like svdt/hans/phbank/savemanager?

the crash happens when you want to launch a second homebrew.
And when you have returned from those xml titles， your BGM won't play.

Grrr, my (sad) attempt at a fix isn't working. I got error d8e007f7 when attempting to restart the service. Here is a decode of the error:

Module: 1 Kernel
Level: 27 Permanent
Summary: 7 Invalid argument
Description: 1015 Invalid handle

Clearly I cannot stop a service that I have not started... I think there might be a few options to go from here.

1. If there is an error, try to reboot the application automatically and regain service control. Should be done really quickly if done automatically. (May cause problems if a boot.3dsx without a boot manager? May cause a bootloop if not created properly?)
2. Start the app with no sound if there is an error locking the service (and notify the user with some form of text). The user can then decide if they want to reboot the application or continue for the time being without sound. (Sadface... Sound is awesome!)
3. Leave it be and let users press LRDB to restart the application in its frozen state (unperfered. Confusing to end user)

Option 2 seems like what I will be coding in the near future. I'll see what I can do and wait for some feedback. If you think of an option, let me and/or mashers know!

  • Grid Launcher b102
  • Homebrew Emergency Launcher (m45t3r's fork)
Entrypoint 1: Menuhax 2.0
  • CHMM 2.1 beta -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
  • SVDT 0.10.42d (using Ocarina of Time) -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
Entrypoint 2: Ninjhax 2.5
  • CHMM 2.1 beta -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
  • SVDT 0.10.42d (using Ocarina of Time) -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
Entrypoint 3: Ironhax 2.5
  • CHMM 2.1 beta -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
  • SVDT 0.10.42d (using Ocarina of Time) -> exits fine, but no sound and crash when opening another app
Entrypoint 4: Oot3dhax (it now supports 2.5 payloads)

What I understood about the issue is that when quitting an xml-app, it doesn't exit the hans loop.
The reason why the launcher crashes after exiting an app and trying to relaunch it, is because you're still in the hans loop (do the exit combo and you'll see that the launcher will reload)
Seems to happen only on o3DS. Probably, ram issues.

What do you mean, the hans loop?

It would make sense if it was only an o3DS issue, since it seems people aren't getting the problem, and people who are getting it seem to all be on o3DS.

I use to get this with AS but I think something was wrong with the romsfs. I only say that because that is how i fixed it

edit: on n3ds xl 10.1

I mean, enter into something like save manager or chmm, quit to the launcher and press the hans combo to exit titles, it will reload the launcher.
I pretty much confirm that is a o3DS RAM issue, and I think I know why
