the person says it's brand new, ad I know nintendo was pulling boxes off of the shelf and updating them themsevles. But anyway how unlikely is it? Am I just going to ahve to peruse craigslist and find somoene selling one that's not brand new?

Edit: and what's the vieo look like? Is it on the home screen? If I nkew that I could more easily weed out consoles as I did with mii verse on o3ds.

Here is a thread that lists the serial numbers and the firmwares that go along with them. https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-xl-firmware-by-version-number.381479/

>Nintendo was pulling boxes off of the shelf and updating them themselves.
I haven't heard of this besides people scaremongering or trying to start rumours.

As for what the aeroplane video looks like, it's an orange blue background and has a white paper aeroplane on the icon. It doesn't tell you what minimum or maximum firmware the system is on, only if it's been formatted. A system might not have the video but still be an exploitable firmware.

I've looked at that thread, and I'm hoping to get lucky at my local walmart as they still had games from black friday on their shelves in march. These weren't random shit sports games but big nme heavy hitters with the sticker still on it from black friday sales.

Edit: also is theversion number/serial actualy on the box itself? Like the wii u?

Yes. The serial number is on the thin side (I think?) of the american boxes. Have that thread pulled up on your phone so you don't have to buy one and pointlessly return it.
